The Grianán of Aileach is situated on Greenan Mountain with excellent views toward Lough Swilly and Inch Island.

It was a damp and windy morning up on the high ground with some sunny periods, so we could enjoy the view.

The stone fort dates back to the nineth century, was restored in the late 1800's and is a popular tourist attraction at Burt in Donegal.

If you are in the area it is well worth a visit and has a good road with parking a short walk away from the fort.

Rescue 118 from the Irish Coastguard base in Sligo attended a training and familiarisation afternoon with their new AW189 SAR Helicopter at the University of Ulster Campus, Coleraine.

The local RNLI, PSNI and HM Coastguard teams were given access to see the helicopter up close and speak with its crew.
