I think I have a bit of a thing about old shooting lodges and barns... 🧐 I took this one with the drone, as I wanted just that little bit of height (drones are handy for that 😉).

This is a derelict shooting lodge as the sun set behind the fells at the beginning of heather season a few weeks back. It’s marked on the map as Greets Shooting Lodge, but these days it’s little more than a ruin, surrounded by miles of open moorland. I think it's a doer-upper, don't you?

There’s not much here apart from the birds and the slightly bonkers road that climbs up from Wensleydale and eventually drops down into Swaledale. It’s one of those roads where you really hope you don’t meet anything large coming the other way! 😬

Heather season in the Yorkshire Dales 💜

I've been a bit quieter than usual on socials recently. Between a fairly hectic day job and preparing for a photography exhibition, there hasn't been much time left for editing and posting. But I have still got out with the camera, which is the important bit! 😍

This was taken a few weeks ago when the heather up on Addlebrough Hill was looking spectacular around this old shooting lodge.

The other two photographs are part of my exhibition, which opens this Thursday (3 September) at The Old School House Gallery, Muker, alongside a talented group of landscape photographers.

I won't lie, there's been a touch of imposter syndrome exhibiting alongside this lot, but I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's work on display at last!

Happy Yorkshire Day! 🏞️

As if I needed an excuse to post more photos of Yorkshire... 😂 It's a place I'm proud to call home, and after all these years, I still can't get enough of it...

I've dug out a few photographs from the North York Moors too, taken during a commission I worked on last year, just to add a bit of variety (it was a shock to be out of the Dales!) .

I know some of these are a bit cheesy... but sometimes you've just got to embrace it! 🧀😬 And if there's ever a day for a bit of cheese, surely it's God's Own County Day? 😉

Right... I’m going to shamelessly use and abuse you lovely lot 😂

I’m starting to choose the images for my upcoming exhibition, and I’d love your help 🙏

Choosing favourites is surprisingly difficult (especially when you have a trillion images!), so I’m sharing a few contenders and asking for your honest opinions.

Which ones make you stop scrolling? Which ones could you imagine seeing on a wall?

I really like the first one... but is it a bit Marmite? 😬😂

The first two were taken earlier this summer in Wensleydale, and the last image was taken in Muker on the same day (if I remember rightly) 🌼

Firstly, thank you so much for all the lovely comments and messages on my last post about my upcoming exhibition. It genuinely means a lot 💚

A few evenings ago I decided to take a drive up over Park Rash (Cam Gill Road) in search of some evening light. It’s a spectacular road through the Yorkshire Dales... and one that is famous with cyclists for its rather brutal climb - no thanks! 😬

I took the scenic route, enjoying the views along the way, and I, of course, got a little waylaid (as is often the danger when I'm driving through the Dales with a camera!) and by the time I reached the Kettlewell end, the light had disappeared behind that ENORMOUS hill. Typical. 😂

The landscape was still beautiful, and I came away with a few images that reminded me I definitely need to return - shucks 🤷‍♀️ That's no hardship; I love it here!

Some SUPER exciting news! 🎉

I've been invited to exhibit at the Yorkshire Dales Landscape Photography Show at The Old School Gallery in Muker, Swaledale.

I've spent a good few years photographing the landscape, particularly the Yorkshire Dales, and along the way have attended workshops with the excellent Lizzie Shepherd Photography and David Speight Photography. I've also admired the work of several of the other photographers in the exhibition for many years.

So seeing my name alongside theirs feels a little bit surreal... but brilliant! 😊

Turns out years of cold fingers, waiting for the light, and occasionally dancing when I get it (or muttering and swearing when I don't 😆) were worth it!

I’ll let you into a little secret... I didn’t take this recently 🤫

With much of the country melting this weekend, I thought we could all do with something to cool us down.

This is Cauldron Falls in West Burton on one of the coldest winter days I can remember. The waterfall had frozen around the edges and enormous icicles hung from the limestone walls - it was quite a sight! 😯

I’ve swum here many times... although I can confirm this was NOT one of those occasions! 🥶

A few weeks ago I decided to walk through the meadows to the gym.

It was only a slight detour. I definitely wasn’t going to stop and take photos...

Famous last words! 😬

It was a breezy day, and I wanted to capture the movement of the meadow as the flowers bounced about in the wind. Needless to say, I got completely distracted 🌼

I did make it as far as seeing the gym from the top of the field, but that was about as close as I got! By the time I reached Askrigg, it had started raining, the gym idea had completely disappeared, and I ended up ringing my husband for a lift home instead 😂

The farmers are busy cutting the meadows now, storing hay to feed their animals through the winter, so I’m very glad I stopped to enjoy them while the flowers were still at their best 💚

I absolutely love spending time on a Yorkshire Dales farm – although I'd make the worst farmer ever (me and farm gates don’t get along!). I love seeing what goes on behind the scenes and meeting the people who care for this landscape every day.

A few weeks ago I had the chance to visit Wayne Hutchinson's farm near Gayle in Wensleydale while helping on a photography project for work. Just look at the bond between Hutchinson Photography and his dog Ez ❤️

Between the meadows, the sheep and one very devoted sheepdog, there was no shortage of moments to capture 🌼🐑🐾

Summer in Wensleydale has been GREAT this year 💚 And Swaledale... and all the other dales too (if only I could get to them all!).

For a few short weeks each year, the hay meadows are full of wildflowers 🌼

This particular spot, close to Hawes, is one I return to throughout the year. It helps that it's close to home, but it's also got amazing views across Wensleydale. The flowers this year were just the best I think I've ever seen! Add in a bit of lovely Yorkshire Dales light, and it doesn't get much better 😍

Did anyone else make the most of the Yorkshire Dales hay meadows this year?
