Wigan and Leigh Group Sponsored Walk – Trentham Gardens
Around 25 Freemasons, together with family members, gathered at Bryn and Leigh Masonic Halls to board Ogden’s Travel coaches for the annual sponsored walk and our summer sojourn to Trentham Gardens on 5th July 2026.
The journey south was smooth and uneventful, allowing everyone to arrive suitably refreshed and ready to tackle the day ahead. Trentham itself did not disappoint. The gardens were truly beautiful, with sweeping meadows, the lake, fairy trail and impressive Italian Gardens all providing plenty to explore.
There was also the opportunity to visit the beaver reserve. Sadly, no beavers were seen (despite the Group Secretary confidently identifying several, each of which, on closer inspection, proved to be either a log or a stone). Fortunately, the abundance of cafés and opportunities for a slightly stiffer form of refreshment ensured that spirits remained high.
The adjoining outlet village also proved popular, with a spot of retail therapy completed before everyone regrouped and boarded the coaches for the return journey to Leigh and Bryn. We arrived back in good time for the rugby, where the final score likely proved particularly popular with most of the travelling party.
Most importantly, the day was another excellent fundraising success. Our sincere thanks go to all Lodges and Chapters who contributed to this annual fundraising opportunity, helping to raise approximately £1,500 for the Wigan and Leigh Group. The funds will be faithfully applied in support of local charities and Group endeavours.
The trip provided a welcome opportunity to socialise, exercise and recharge during the summer recess, with a little shopping and refreshment thrown in for good measure.
A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all, and we now look forward to returning to our Masonic labours in September
