Well done Derbyshire for fighting back after losing wickets on the first two balls of the ongoing County Championship match against Kent. Derbyshire have got themselves into a position to push for a win, partly due to a century (plus three wickets so far) for Martin Andersson. These are photos from day 1.

Ockbrook & Borrowash met Spondon in the final of the Derbyshire County Cricket League Premier Cup, played at Alfreton.

After a difficult start Ockbrook made it to 191 for 8 from their 40 overs, Jacob Conners top-scoring with 52. Connor Nel thumped 37 from 22 balls, including 26 off the final over.

Spondon chased down the total with 3 wickets to spare.

Buxton vs Ockbrook & Borrowash 2nd XI on Saturday September 5. Earlier start time, lower sun, longer shadows, softer ground, greens not looking quite as green, spectators needing more substantial clothing than recently to keep warm. Not many more games of cricket now this season... Ockbrook won by 4 wickets with two balls to spare.

I was very pleased to see one of my photos from last week's County Championship match between Derbyshire and Middlesex get picked up by The Cricket Paper to accompany Nigel Gardner's match report. I always try to tell the story of the game with my photos. I also try to follow the great Patrick Eagar's method of trying to imagine what a journalist's words might be, and to take photos which accompany them. Heading back to Sheffield from Derbyshire County Cricket club yesterday, with the day's play against Middlesex abandoned after the morning session due to rain, Google Maps sent me on the back roads for some reason. Since I had my camera gear with me I took the opportunity to capture a few landscapes. Here are a couple from Owler Bar Road.

2nd XI were hosts to on Saturday. Ockbrook won the toss and elected to bat. There were 50s from openers Jack Smith (67) and Arron Tidmarsh (56), and from Sam Crocker (73 from 51 balls). Joe Zydzienowski (37* from 37 balls) and Patrick Walker (27* from 13 balls), also deserve a mention for adding 34 runs to the total from just 19 balls. Ockbrook put on a mammoth 328 for 6 from their 45 overs.

Derby Congs started steadily enough and just about kept up with the required rate, but the loss of wickets in the middle overs did damage from which they couldn't recover. Joe Zydzienowski and Sahil Mukadam took three wickets each, and Sam Crocker held onto three important catches.

I was recently commissioned to shoot a U13 game at Spondon Cricket Club. It turned out that would be the game in which they secured the league title, beating Sandiacre Town who finished in second place. The photo package included pre-game profile shots of each player, team photos, match action and of course some photos of the post-match celebrations. The photos were delivered to the club in a password-protected gallery.

As a photographer, I had the same mindset as I have when shooting all my matches, including professional First Class cricket: capture the story of the game and the personalities of the players, and deliver photos that make people happy.
