Yesterday (29th October 2025) the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Avro Lancaster PA474 departed from it's home at RAF Coningsby to Duxford where it will undergo an in-depth major service & overhaul which is estimated to take approx 18 months to complete by ARCo (Aircraft Restoration Company). This means the Lancaster will be absent for the 2026 season

All being well it should return in readiness for the 2027 display season adorned with new markings once worn by Lancaster LM220 of IX Squadron in 1944-45 with the wartime nose art "Getting Younger Everyday"

A montage of photos to celebrate the 80th birthday of Avro Lancaster Mk.I PA474 as she rolled off the production line at Broughton on 31st May 1945 & still going strong 80 years later flying with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby!

This week sees the retirement of the Westland Puma fleet at RAF Benson, sad to see another type enter the history books!
