The darkside of the milkyway from last night, managed to get 11mins of cloud free subs before it clouded over, the 35mph gusts were not helping either.
This is facing in the opposite direction to the core, there's a lot fewer stars which means its a lot dimmer and a lot harder to bring out the galaxy's structure.
The red blobs are H-Alpha emission nebula, at the top - Heart Nebula, Middle - California Nebula, Bottom - Flaming Star Nebula.
I also managed to catch M31 Andromeda in the top right and M33 the Triangulum galaxy.
This is a composite image of a tracked, stacked image of the sky, and a single untracked image of the ground (from the same spot).

The Spaghetti Nebula! From my back garden in Harray :)

The Spaghetti Nebula is a super nova remnant of a star which exploded about 40,000 years ago. If you had magical eyesight and you see it, it would appear about 6 times larger than the moon in the night sky.

This is a narrowband image which means the red colour is H-Alpha emissions and the very very faint blue is OIII emissions.

I captured the data back on the 3rd of March when we still had night time, but have been editing it on and off over the last 3 months.

2h of 30sec exposures.

A slightly longer aurora video, in the first 5 seconds you can see a load of rain, only a few hundred meters away, nearly wipe out my very non water proof camera. Even on a clear night it is a risk you take when leaving your camera unattended in Orkney.
The little dots running about the sky are satellites.

One from around 9:30pm, the best bits of tonights aurora had passed behind the thick clouds but I managed a quick panorama between the frequent hail storms blowing over.

Aurora / Milkyway panorama from the driveway in Harray this morning around 3am. Happy to have caught this between the wind gusts and heavy rain 😁
