💙 Kyle Ritchie Memorial Match ⚽️📸

I was absolutely honoured when I was asked to photograph the Kyle Ritchie Memorial Match. I was asked by Kyle’s brother if I could come along to photograph that match. It meant a lot to be able to be there and capture such a special day for his family, friends and everyone who came together to remember him 💙

There was such a brilliant sense of community throughout the day, with plenty of football, smiles, laughs and memories being made in Kyle’s name. A massive thank you to everyone who stopped for a photo, smiled for the camera and let me capture them in action on the day 📸

I’m really grateful to have been trusted to document the day and give everyone some memories to look back on 💙⚽️

Such a great game to photograph yesterday! Even better with the boys clinching the win at the very end. Always a pleasure to photograph Ardeer Thistle FC ❤️🖤⚽️

⚽️ Elite Touch 2020 | Individual shots 📸

Monday night was all about getting the boys ready for a brand new chapter as a team, with their first ever set of official headshots!

There’s something really nice about photographing a team right at the beginning! Capturing their very first moments before their new adventure. These are the faces that will hopefully become a familiar team on the pitch over the seasons ahead! ⚽️

The boys were all super fun and I had such a lovely time with them on Monday night. They definitely kept me laughing 🤩

Wishing Elite Touch Football all the best for their first season together! 🖤🩷

I cannot believe this happened last night!

I can officially say I won Photographer of the Year at the Lower Leagues of Scottish Football Awards! 🥳🏆

Honestly, I don’t even know where to start! What started as just a hobby for me has grown into so much more, and I am so grateful and happy to be in this position. If you had told me at the start of this journey that one day I would be accepting an award like this, I would’ve told you to get lost!

Firstly, I would like to thank A Dad, His Lad and His Lad for throwing such an amazing night. For it being your first time running anything as big as this, it was absolutely fantastic. The support you are showing to the lower leagues is outstanding ❤️

Last night, I actually had a speech sprung on me… Everyone knows I love a yap, but I was honestly too emotional (and completely unprepared) that I couldn’t get the words out. So, I hope this does justice to my attempt last night!

For anyone who doesn’t know me, I’m Sophie. I’m 21 years old and from Kilmarnock. I grew up playing football and did my rounds of all the teams, even spending time at both Kilmarnock Women and Ayr United. I always, ALWAYS begged my mum for action shots of me. Unfortunately, her iPhone 4 at the time didn’t do too well at catching how fast I was! 😉

I realised from such a young age that there was such a massive gap when it came to women’s sport being showcased in the media. Sadly, I never made it to the Premier League or anything like that… but I’ve always prided myself on trying to photograph anyone and any sport that might not typically get the media coverage they deserve.

Accepting this award as a young woman and business owner means the absolute world to me. It makes me feel so much pride and joy for the younger me who once felt like she couldn’t play football because she was worried about being judged.

I accept this award as a strong-headed 21-year-old, but also for all the girls and players who have ever thought they weren’t good enough to play.

I accept it for all the amazing boys and men I get to watch play week in, week out, and for all the youth academies and teams I get to photograph throughout the week. You are really what makes football what it is! 🙌

I would then like to take a moment to thank Stuart Roy from Ardeer Thistle.

He was the very first person who took a chance on me, let me come along and photograph his team, and gave me an opportunity to grow. Everyone knows I must have been on that Kilmarnock to Saltcoats route a thousand times by now! And honestly, I wouldn’t change it for the world.

The kindness not only Stuart has shown me, but all the players and other teams too, is something I’ll treasure forever. I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart, and I can’t thank Ardeer Thistle enough for helping me grow into where I am today. ❤️

Then I have to thank my parents!
They are the most encouraging and supportive people I could ever have behind me and my business. They are the ones who see how much time I put into Sophie Ross Photography and push me through every hurdle I’ve had to come across. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They’ve helped me grow and supported me whenever I’ve needed it most.

A big thank you to my sponsor (and younger brother) Lyle, too. He has modelled - regardless of how much hatred he has towards it - countless times for me. He’s always first to like my photos and videos, first to share them, first to comment and always first to be there for me.

So, a part of this trophy is theirs too. They are the people behind Sophie Ross Photography just as much as I am! 🫶🏻

I then have to thank my boyfriend, Kyle.
He has had to listen to me talk about photography at least 20 times a day for the last two years! He is always giving me support and tips and letting me be as creative as possible. Essentially, he’s the one behind my calm confidence ☺️

Kyle was actually the one who sparked my interest in photography. We’ve been dating since school, despite never being in the same classes! We thought it would be a great idea to take the same Photography subject. I didn’t care for it at the time, we just wanted to spend more time together! But that was my first ever time picking up a camera, and funnily enough, I picked sports as my project!

They always say that who you are depends on who you surround yourself with, and I have to say, I’m so happy it’s you. Thank you so much for your continued love and support ❤️

Now, I could literally be here for another hour typing this. I’ve already rewritten it about five times! 😂

But my biggest thank you goes to everyone else.

To my big brother Cameron and Siobhan, who always share my posts and let me use Freya to model ❤️

To Kyle’s Mum, Angie, who is always first to share, comment and message about how proud she is. And to the rest of Kyle’s family, who always make such a big effort to support my business and want to see me succeed 🩷

To Rising Stars, for continuing to support and promote me, inviting me along to your sessions and letting me see you guys grow too! ❤️

To Tots United, for giving me regular custom and allowing me to come along to your events. Not only as a photographer, but as a part of Tots United! ❤️

To Ardeer Thistle 2010, for letting me be your sponsor and supporting the boys throughout your season! ❤️

To Ardeer Thistle FC, who I’ve recently partnered up with to photograph monthly matches. I am already loving being a part of it and can’t wait for it to continue! ❤️

To Whitletts Vics, who have invited me along to so many tournaments, matches and events. I am so thankful to have had so many opportunities! ❤️

To Ayrshire Hub, who have just recently given me a space to work from. This is honestly such a huge step for me and my business, and I am so grateful! ❤️

To all my new and old customers, who have trusted me to photograph their teams, families and events.

And to EVERY SINGLE PERSON who voted for me.

It honestly means the absolute world.

Whenever I heard my name called last night, all I could think about was everyone who voted for me. Every person I’ve ever photographed, every team I’ve worked with, and every person who has made an impact on me throughout this journey.

I accepted this award for you ❤️❤️❤️

And I am so, so, so grateful.

I have to apologise for such a big read and for any terrible grammar! But honestly, to round it all up…

This means so much more to me than a trophy.

It makes me feel like this is all worth it.

Every early morning, every late night editing, every hour spent travelling, every match in the freezing cold, every photo taken, every post made, every person I’ve met along the way…

It was all worth it.

I can’t thank everyone enough for all the support and love I feel right now. I appreciate it more than I could ever put into words.

I can’t wait to see what’s next 💜

Sophie x

This is my attempt to tag everyone I didn’t mention in the post! 😹 You all make Sophie Ross Photography 💙
