Works starting Monday 7th September

💧We're preparing to begin the first phase of our £6 million programme of improvements to the Ouseburn and local watercourses, with work at Killingworth Lake in North Tyneside to get underway next week.

💧This investment will help reduce the number of storm overflow spills into the Ouseburn, improve the resilience of the sewer network during heavy rainfall, and support better water quality for the future.

👷Working alongside North Tyneside Council and our delivery partner Esh-Stantec, we'll be carrying out the work in phases to minimise disruption and keep local communities informed throughout the project.

🗺The map shows temporary changes to footpath access at Killingworth Lake while we carry out the work. Clearly sign posted footpath diversions will be in place where temporary closures are required.

Update - Following a walk about with Cllr Brian Smith and officers, we highlighted issues around Brookland Drive including paving, wasteland and the road surface around the garages. So far the waste land has been cleared
We also visited the East Bailey and Keegans parks, finishing up in Cherry Grove and Cypress gardens. So far a team have been into Keegans Park to clear rubbish and broken glass. A small sweeper has been in also to give the once over.
We will continue to seek improvements to our ward.

For information - Temporary road closure, the effect will be to prohibit all through traffic on Agincourt.

Unfortunately there is no alternative route however access to be given when possible.

The closure is to allow patching works and a cleanse to sewer.

The order will come into force on 27th July for a period of 1 day.

As a councillor, I take great pleasure in taking forward residents concerns and getting solutions. So it was a very nice surprise to have received the email below.

Subject: Construction Traffic on Simonside Way

Dear Councillor Stobbart,

We, the residents of Simonside Park, want to express our sincere thanks for your quick response to the ongoing disruptions caused by the contractors and subcontractors involved with the Story Homes development. It’s been a challenging time for those of us living nearby, as we’ve witnessed repeated breaches that have deeply affected our daily lives.

Some of the issues we’ve faced include:

Articulated vehicles reversing from the B1317 onto Simonside Way without a banksman to guide them, creating dangerous situations.
Heras fencing being dropped off and left at the junction of Simonside Way and the B1317, blocking sightlines and causing concern.
Traffic management vehicles parked on corners, blocking left turns and forcing drivers to swing wide on turns, adding to the traffic chaos.
Tarmac trucks parking on footpaths right beside people’s homes, making it difficult and unsafe for pedestrians.
Vehicles with plant machinery waiting on Simonside Way for their delivery slots, occupying residential space.
Road rollers refuelling in side streets, which led to a fuel spillage. Worse still, when a resident raised concerns, they were met with hostility—only for the council’s road cleaning team to arrive and clean up the developer’s mess once again.
The final straw was when a road roller driver tapped into the water mains on a side street off Simonside Way, explaining there was no water available on site. This blatant misuse of public utilities is unacceptable.
Thank you for making this issue a priority. It’s been frustrating for residents to feel ignored by both the planning department and planning control, who have not taken these multiple breaches seriously.
