A few slide scans, taken by Geoff Cooke in South Africa in 1975. Some slides have been scanned twice, first when a selected number of images were uploaded in 2011 and again when the complete collection were scanned in 2025. Both have been left here, generally the 2025 scans have benefitted from impr...

I have completed scanning the slides taken on my trip to mainland Europe in 1974. Cleaning up and colour correcting the Agfa CT18 slides has been challenging, but I have chosen to add the full collection to my Flickr site as some of the images may be of historic interest even if of questionable quality. If you have any relevant comments, please feel free to post either here or on Flickr. Find the album by clicking here:

I visited Europe between 02 June and 04 July 1974, primarily to photograph some of the last steam operations in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Austria and Germany. The images were taken using a Nikon F camera and Agfa CT18 slide film. The slides were 50 years old before being scanned and the CT18 film tend...

I am scanning the slides that I took in 1974 in date order. For a while, Africa has taken a back seat as I work through a tour I made to western Europe in search of some of the last main line steam locomotives. So far, pictures taken in Portugal and Spain have been added to the Flickr album, Italy is next and then Austria.

Sheelagh and I took our caravan to Spain on a three month jaunt around the country starting in March. I took pictures to remind me of the memorable trip, and have now completed adding some of them to my Flickr site. We travelled clockwise around the country starting in Barcelona and ending in Santander. Follow the journey from the dry Mediterranean coast to the green Bay of Biscay.

Click on the link, sit back with a Sangria and watch. No knowledge of Spanish required.

Enjoy the journey, we did!

A fun collection of beasts, birds, bugs and mascots that I have seen on railways. Some will make you smile, others will make you wonder!

The Victoria Falls Bridge was opened in 1905, it crosses the Zambezi River that forms the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Originally a railway bridge, it was raised, widened and a road added in 1929. Trains still cross this bridge regularly as it forms part of the railway linking South Africa's....
