Dave Hardy - Astrophotography This page is purely for me to share my passion with you of astrophotography. I have a SkyWatcher 200 PDS Newtonian telescope. My mount is a Skywatcher EQ6-R pro.

I use a modified Canon 1000D DSLR camera.

Just a few more images from the other night. Top image is the Double Cluster in Perseus. Left to right The Crescent Nebula in Cygnus then NGC 281 The Pacman Nebula in Cassiopeia the first one was taken with the Astro filter and the second one was with the dual narrowband (OIII and Hydrogen alpha) filter on the Dwarf 3. I hope you enjoy looking them.

My latest from last night. This is NGC 6946 The Fireworks Galaxy. The top one is from the new scope the Dwarf 3 Smart Telescope the bottom one is from my 8" Newtonian. You can see the difference in detail. The D3 has a far larger FOV so not so much detail. This galaxy is 25 million Ly's away from Earth. To put that into perspective, we (humans) weren't even a dot on the face of the Earth when the light from last night left the galaxy on it voyage to Earth and my sensor.

Well I'm back taking images of the sky. It's been a while but with my new scope I can do this anywhere. No more carting huge heavy telescopes about. My new smart telescope the Dwarf III is a game changer for me. This is IC1318 the Gamma Cygni nebula which is a diffuse reflection nebula in the constellation of Cygnus the Swan and is about 5,000 Ly's from Earth. Sadr is the large foreground star and has nothing to do with the nebula being only 1800 ly's from Earth. This reflection nebula and is lit by a blue giant star which is obscured by interstellar dust so we can't actually see it. I hope you enjoy. keep an eye out there will be more.

This is my latest I haven't posted for a while so I hope you enjoy it.
This is the area surrounding y(gamma) Cyg in the constellation of Cygnus the Swan. y(gamma) Cyg is the central star in the cross of Cygnus also known as the northern cross the star is also known as Sadr. The nebula lies about 1,800 light years away and is a star forming region made up of molecular hydrogen hence the red colour. The nebula is also call IC1318 The y Cyg Nebula. The bright star at the top left hand corner is Sadr (y Cygni).

Last nights efforts. This is M97 The Owl Nebula in Ursa Major. It is believed to be about 8000 yrs old the nebula that is not the star. It lies about 2300 LY's away from Earth. This is known as a planetary nebula an is what will happen to our Sun in several billion years time. The central star has come to the end of it's life used up all it's hydrogen and blown off the gas which is what creates the nebula. The different colours are different gases the blue/green in the center is oxygen or oxygen III to be precise the red is hydrogen which are the most abundant gasses.

This the moon from 05/04/20 at 91% full or a Waxing Gibbous moon. The added colour isn't false it was always there but I have upped the saturation to bring it out.

Here are 3 images I managed to take a few nights ago.

Image 1 is NGC 1502 is a small open cluster of approximately 45 stars in the constellation Camelopardalis. It lies about 2700 LY's from Earth.

Image 2 is M106 it is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici. It lies about 25 million LY's from Earth.

Image 3 M92 it is a globular cluster of stars in the northern constellation of Hercules. It Lies about 26,700 LY's from Earth.
