The Lake District always delivers. This is Cat Bells, one of the easier climbs near Keswick overlooking Derwent Water. You still have to be quite sure on your feet as there's some scrambling over rocks to reach the peak.

I’ve finally closed on a modest little weekend cottage in the countryside - Lowther Castle. It’s got a few guest rooms, a decent-sized driveway, and enough curb appeal to make a Duke jealous.

The previous owners were a bit "extra" with the limestone, but I think with a few throw pillows and a very large rug, it’ll feel quite cozy. I’m currently accepting applications for a full-time royal gardener and someone whose sole job is to follow me around and play a lute while I walk to the kitchen.

Corfe Castle isn't just a ruin - it’s basically a giant, stone monument to a very stubborn woman. Back in the 1640s, during the English Civil War, Lady Mary Bankes held off an entire Parliamentarian army twice. While her husband was away fighting for the King, she and her maids literally threw hot coals and stones off the battlements to keep the invaders out.
The only reason it looks like a "jigsaw puzzle gone wrong" is that the Parliamentarians were so annoyed it took them three years to capture it that they eventually voted to blow it up from the inside with gunpowder. Even then, the medieval masonry was so solid that instead of crumbling, huge chunks of the towers just slid down the hill or tilted at those crazy angles you see today.

A view of Bosham Harbour with the tide out. You can walk across when the tide is out - it's even marked as a footpath on OS Maps! Cars parked in the bay are often caught in the rising tide as well.

I wonder how long it takes to clear all these locks!

Caen Hill Locks are a flight of 29 locks with a rise of 237 feet over two miles on the Kennet and Avon Canal, between Rowde and Devizes
