Sadly the spooky season is now over but this witches hat waxcap is still out to play 🍄
Waxcaps are excellent indicator species for good soil health, this is especially important when managing meadows and grasslands which may have been of poor quality in the past due to pollution from industrial land use.

I am currently making my way through all 214 Wainwright fell walks in The Lakes with my partner and fellow walking loser chums.
Have you done any Wainwrights - if so, what's your favourite walk?

I hope you're all coping well and keeping partially sane in these surreal and baffling times.
I managed to peel myself out of bed before sunrise a few months back to capture this shot of a Great Crested Grebe and it's reflection at sunrise.

These aquatic birds have a wonderful mating ritual in which they will dance with each other in the water before they mate. Grebes will have a boogie with each other every time they meet and each dance will vary according to circumstance. Most dances end with a small period of head shaking. Rockin' out or disapproval? Who knows 🤷‍♀️

A very luckily timed spectacular view of late morning mist blanketing one of Scotlands many beautiful lochs last year.
Within 10 minutes the low lying mist had dispersed leaving behind lovely views of the loch itself.

Japanese macaque (Macaca fuscata) also known as snow monkeys which are native to Japan. The northern populations demonstrate significant cold adaptions as they can be snowbound for upto one third of the year on the main island of Japan, Honshu.
As most will know, the macaques diet is not limited, they're not fussy and won't think twice about scoring a free bite of whatever a human may be holding. They are omnivorous so they will chow down on a great mix of fruit, plants, fungi, insects and even soil (mmm... tasty stuff 😐).
They typically form groups of around 40/41 on average but can also range from 10 to 161 in numbers. 🐒

I'm not fully sure what's so alluring about the sound of rushing water but I sat here for a good while and zoned out listening to it.
I think maybe, for me, it's the loudness of the water that helps to mask the constant noise going on inside my own brain that I find so calming 🌊🌲🍂
