Father’s Day can be a beautiful day. It can also be a difficult one.
Today, I’m thinking of the dads who are no longer here but are still part of every milestone, every memory, and every wedding day. The dads whose photos are carried in bouquets, pinned to jackets, mentioned in speeches, and felt in the quiet moments when their absence is loudest.
I’m thinking of the men who may not have the title of Dad but show up every day with the same love, support and guidance. Stepdads, grandads, uncles, brothers, mentors and friends who choose to be there when it matters most.
I’m also thinking of the mums who have had to be both mum and dad. The ones who carried the weight of two roles, showed up to every sports day, fixed the problems, gave the advice, dried the tears and celebrated every success. The women who stepped into shoes they never expected to fill and did so with strength, love and unwavering dedication.
And I’m thinking of every bride who has walked down the aisle with her dad by her side, held his hand a little tighter during the father-daughter dance, or wished more than anything that he could have been there. I’m thinking too of the brides whose mums proudly walked them down the aisle, stood beside them, or filled that role with all the love and pride in the world.
As a wedding photographer, I get a front row seat to these moments. The hugs that last a little longer. The proud smiles. The tears. The empty chairs. The stories shared. The love that never really leaves us.
Whatever Father’s Day looks like for you today, I hope you’re surrounded by love, memories, and the people who matter most.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, the father figures, the dads we miss, the mums who have been both parents, and the people who continue to show up every single day.
