Just back from a trip to the far North-West of Scotland to climb one of the country’s shapeliest mountains, Suilven.
It’s not even close to the nation’s highest peaks, at 731m (2,398ft), but its Torridonian sandstone flanks rise steeply above the lochs and moors of Assynt, near Lochinver. My knees and thighs can attest to the steepness of its slopes. But the views, out as far as the Isle of Harris, were worth the effort.

Just back from a business trip to Liverpool, birthplace of one of my grandfathers and one of my favourite English cities. Managed to fly the drone briefly before strong winds and shirty gulls necessitated a return to land. The Waterfront and Albert Dock have a magical look at night.

Poet and educator Kirsty Taylor turned in an impressive performance of two of her works at the relaunch of Keighley Together, which aims to counter racist and divisive politics in the town. Also speaking at the Central Hall event were former Keighley Conservative MP Kris Hopkins and Amjad Zaman, a Keighley Labour elected member on Bradford Council.

Another rugby star who appeared in my K-Town People project, funded by the Bradford 2025 City of Culture Our Patch programme, was Kevin Sinfield, the former Leeds and England rugby league regular who has completed numerous charity challenges for the Motor Neurone Disease Association in honour of his former team-mate the late Rob Burrows who had the disease.

Here, he chats with visitors to the New Keith Thompson Centre on the Guard House estate.

Today’s picture from my K-Town People project, funded by the Bradford 2025 City of Culture Our Patch programme, is of Skeletal Family, the Keighley-based rock band who formed in 1982, the year before I began my career as a professional photographer. They posed regularly in front of my lens during my early years on the Keighley News.
They’ve had their ups and downs, splits and re-forms, but they’re still playing and wowing crowds, with upcoming gigs in Derby, Brighton, Wolverhampton, Leipzig and Edinburgh. The current line-up is: Ian Taylor, Stan Greenwood, Anneka Latta, Roger ‘Trotwood’ Nowell and Owen Richards.

During the 10 months I spent photographing the ‘ordinary people’ of Keighley for my K-Town People project, I unearthed some amazing stories and captured images of many extraordinary ordinary people.
Tom Hollins is certainly one of these. The consultant anaesthetist from Airedale Hospital is one of the country’s top endurance runners, having won the brutal Spine Race, which involves a continuous traverse of the 268 miles of the Pennine Way in January. In 2025 he posted the fastest self-supported time in winter to summit the 214 Lake District fells described in Alfred Wainwright’s series of renowned hand-drawn guidebooks.
Now, he plans to go further, and complete the Lakeland Round: all the Wainwrights, plus the hills described in the author’s eighth volume, The Outlying Fells of Lakeland – 330 peaks in total, again self-supported, meaning there will be no team providing navigation help, food, or extra gear for foul weather. He aims to cover a distance he has never previously achieved in his challenges.
Tom is taking the challenge to raise funds for the Airedale Hospital and Community Charity’s emergency department appeal, to help refurbish the paediatric waiting room, the paediatric resuscitation room, and the bereavement suite.

He will begin his Lakeland Round challenge at the Moot Hall in Keswick on 5 May. Donation can be made via his JustGiving page. https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/toms-wainwright-challenge

During the challenge, you can follow his progress via the Kong Tracking page. https://live.kongtracking.com/LKLNDRND2026/
