PEACOCK Sports Photography returns to Newlandsfield Park this weekend to cover an intriguing South Challenge Cup tie between Pollok Football Club and Civil Service Strollers FC.

Pollok come into the match in strong form, currently sitting 2nd in the Lowland League West and still unbeaten, while visitors Civil Service Strollers arrive from the Lowland League East, where they currently occupy 10th place. With cup football bringing its own pressure and unpredictability, this has all the ingredients for a competitive afternoon at Newlandsfield as both sides look to book their place in the next round.

Caledonian Braves produced an excellent attacking performance to claim a deserved 5–2 victory over Kilwinning Rangers in a breathless encounter at Alliance Park on Saturday.

The game began at a ferocious pace and never really slowed down. Both sides attacked with real intent from the opening whistle, but it was Kilwinning who struck first in the 18th minute with an outstanding effort from just outside the penalty area. The finish sparked wild celebrations on the visitors’ bench, but their advantage lasted only two minutes.

Braves responded immediately, drawing level in the 20th minute before turning the game completely on its head just four minutes later when they struck again to take a 2–1 lead.

That second goal proved to be the catalyst for a devastating spell from the home side.

With Kilwinning struggling to contain the intensity and movement of the Braves attack, the hosts extended their advantage in the 32nd minute to make it 3–1. Just two minutes later, another clinical finish made it 4–1, leaving the visitors stunned and their coaching staff visibly frustrated on the touchline.

The half-time whistle arrived at the right time for Kilwinning, giving them an opportunity to regroup after a difficult opening 45 minutes.

The second half began in much the same way as the first had ended, with the tempo remaining electric. Kilwinning were handed a route back into the contest five minutes after the restart when they were awarded a penalty, which was confidently converted to reduce the deficit to 4–2.

Any hopes of a comeback, however, were quickly extinguished.

Just four minutes later, Braves struck again to restore their three-goal advantage and make it 5–2.

The remainder of the contest continued at a frantic pace, with both teams committed to attacking football and refusing to take a backward step. Kilwinning continued to push forward, but the damage had already been done and they were unable to recover enough ground to seriously threaten the Braves lead.

When the final whistle arrived, Caledonian Braves were thoroughly deserving winners after a performance full of intensity, attacking quality and ruthless finishing.

The result also brought an important movement in the Lowland League West table, with Braves climbing from 5th to 3rd place, while Kilwinning Rangers dropped from 2nd to 5th.

A hugely entertaining afternoon at Alliance Park — seven goals, relentless tempo and a statement victory for the Braves.
