Here’s a collection of four atmospheric coastal scenes I’ve captured of the ever-changing character of the ocean. It’s my favourite genre of photography, standing knee high in the sea on sweeping sandy beaches, waiting for waves to gush around rugged rock formations and structures.
The photographs have been edited in a dramatic moody style to highlight power and beauty of the coastline.

One of the highlights of the decade was watching the solar eclipse from the coast of South Devon.

South Milton Sands was crowded with families and friends enjoying beach life, all there to share the experience. But it felt like the real value of the day was them being together and making a memory and not just witnessing the eclipse. It was a day they could look back on and remember where they were, who they were with, and what they were doing when this remarkable solar event took place.

This short video is to commemorate this special natural celestial phenomenon. I used two cameras, both taking a photograph every five seconds, to capture the two hour spectacle.

It includes the moment the moon first touched the edge of the sun, the maximum 95% coverage where the sun was a thin crescent sky and the conclusion as the moon passed by the sun.

The night before the ‘Buck’ Full Moon, I went out onto Dartmoor with no expectations, simply grateful to be walking the open moors in the fresh night air as I waited for the moon to rise. I wasn’t focused on taking the perfect photograph, but on being present and taking in the stillness around me. I noticed the heather and gorse in full bloom. It was a quiet reminder that when we let go of expectations, we become more aware of the beauty already there.

This one makes me smile remembering searching for a big pebble with a stripe around it on Thurlestone Rock beach.
I carried it in my rucksack all afternoon ready to compose this image during this beautiful sunset.

In the month of May the southwest coasts come to life with a spectacular display of wildflowers including the vibrant Thrift (Sea Pinks) & the yellow clusters of Kidney Vetch.
Here’s a few of my favourite images from previous years.

The shafts of light were mesmerising as the sun filtered through the fresh spring foliage along the path of Yarner Nature Reserve.
This was another fleeting quiet moment of beauty that emphasizes nature, transience and peace.
