Anyone else keep meaning to post an image and then totally forget that social media exists?! It’s a blessing and a curse 😅

Here’s your reminder that the most simple things can be utterly beautiful ❤️

It’s been a while… I’ve been busier than anticipated away from socials (sorry - not sorry!). Anyway, here’s my image of the month for May, a bonny cricket nymph in Sicilian sunshine. It seems that Sicily is always hopping with them in the spring and they make for lovely photographic subjects. I forgot to note which Asteraceae this was at the time, but it was like sunshine on a stem so I’m just going to enjoy that ☀️

Hope you do too!

My image of the month, a stunning Blue Chaffinch from Tenerife (Fringilla teydea).

Technically I photographed this one last month on my birthday… can’t think of a better way to have spent my 40th than surrounded by these beauties and enjoying some time in nature with my lovely husband ☺️

In honour of my birthday I’m sharing my image of the month a little earlier than normal - a reverse birthday gift if you will.

I was astounded to find this gorgeous Oleander Hawkmoth while guiding for in Cyprus recently. Given that they’re usually on the wing as adults between late July and October, I’m not sure what this one was doing but it was in pristine condition and a photo was a must on an Oleander seed pod.

My image of the month for February is up. It’s not often you get two species of Burnet moth on the same flower and can compare and contrast at close range but here is a pair I found in the Vercors last summer. On the left, Zygaena purpuralis and on the right, Zygaena romeo.

I’d hoped that I might be able to share a new image this month but the weather has been a large contributing factor against me recently. I’m not averse to shooting in the rain but combined with a few other things it’s just not been conducive to a good image lately. Fingers crossed for some good photo opportunities soon 🤞🏼

Time for a splash of sun with a throwback to September 2023 and Japan.

It’s been a bit grey and dreary here so I’m hitting the archives to cheer myself up (and kick myself up the behind so I’ll finally get my photobook of this trip finished!).

Spent a fabulous day on the shores of Lake Kawaguchi in the shadow of the mighty Mount Fuji and found all sorts of wonderful things including this beautiful Eastern Pale Clouded Yellow (Colias erate subsp. poliographus).

Happy New Year… a little late I know, but my image of the month for January is up. I’d hoped to take a new one but life got in the way, so instead I’m sharing one I’ve not shared before from South Africa. A favourite moment from Golden Gate Highlands National Park - a close encounter with a Cape Bunting, Emberiza capensis.

In memory of my late mother in law Fiona who was generous with her love and kindness; a lover of travel, gardening and wildlife; and once told me when she could no longer travel herself that she lived through my images. She will never know what that meant to me, but it will inspire me to continue taking images for a long time. 💔

Wondering if this could be a Christmas tree ornament 🤔 a little gruesome for some perhaps, but I was in awe when we saw this stunning and enormous Leprous Grasshopper in South Africa and I just had to make it my December image of the month!
