Leanne du Plessis Photography specialises in Maternity, Newborn, Baby, Cake Smash, Child Portrait, Family Photography and Brand Photography. Photo Shoots can be either Outdoors or Studio in our beautiful Eversley, Hampshire, Studio. Ideally I'd recommend all Newborn Photo Shoots to be studio based due to changing weather temperatures. Leanne du Plessis Photography’s style is timeless, vibrant and

natural, allowing you to keep your Wall art hanging for years to come. This allows us to create unique and personal images specific for you and your family only. Leanne du Plessis Photography is a qualified member of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers. And, also, a Volunteer Photographer for Remember my Baby. As one of a handful of photographers that is Newborn Photography Safety Certified, you can be assured that your baby is in safe hands and baby's safety is my main priority over any pose. Ideally Newborn Photo Shoots should be held when baby is under 2 weeks. However, don’t stress if you can't make it within the first 2 weeks, the shoot can still be done. Everyone has had to adapt their lives with Covid, and that includes my business. Newborn (or Older Newborns) are being done up to 16 weeks at the moment. Props and outfits are provided for all newborns. If you don't make the Newborn Stage, then a Baby Sitter session is the next milestone and is absolutely adorable. Once baby is sitting unaided, book them in for a Photo Shoot and watch how we capture your little one's personality and gummy smiles. Props and Outfits are provided for your little one. As your baby reaches 1 year old, a Cake Smash is a great option to celebrate their first Birthday. We start with some 'normal' happy, family photos before moving onto the Cake Smash. After Baby has smashed up the cake, we then finish off with a bubble bath and bubbles. Parents and siblings are invited to join in every Photo Shoot too. Making it an experience that the whole family can enjoy. Siblings especially love to get involved in smashing up the cakes. Over the year there are various Mini Family Sessions that we offer to capture seasonal experiences - Bluebells Sessions, Spring Sessions, Autumn Sessions and Christmas Sessions. What do you think you’ll remember most about the newborn stage?

The tiny fingers wrapped around yours. The sleepy little noises. That warm baby smell that makes you sniff their head every five minutes like a totally normal person. The milk drunk faces. The way they curl up on your chest. The tiny toes. The moment you stare at them and think, “How are you actually real?”

And what do you think you’ll happily block out?

The 3am Google searches. The explosive nappies that defy all known science. The mystery stains on every top you own. The tiny socks that disappear into another dimension. The amount of stuff one very small person needs just to leave the house.

The newborn stage is beautiful, but it’s also a blur. A tired, emotional, slightly chaotic blur.

That’s why newborn photos matter so much.

They help you remember the bits you really want to hold onto. And blur out those you don't.

So tell us, what part of the newborn stage do you miss most, and what part were you very happy to leave behind?

You don’t need a “perfectly behaved” baby for newborn photos.

I know that’s one of the things parents worry about before booking. What if baby cries? What if they need feeding? What if they won’t settle? What if they decide the exact moment we start is the perfect time to fill a nappy?

All very normal. Very newborn. Very much expected.

A newborn session isn’t rushed, and I’m not there waiting for your baby to perform on cue. We take our time, keep things calm, and work around what your little one needs.

This photo looks beautifully peaceful, but the bit parents don’t always see is the patience behind it. The warmth, the careful posing, the little pauses, the making sure baby is safe and comfortable before anything else.

So please don’t worry that your baby has to “be good” for photos.

They just have to be a baby.

That bit they’ve usually mastered quite well.

“I’ll wait until I feel less tired” is a dangerous game in pregnancy.

Because let’s be real, pregnancy tired is a whole different beast.

One minute you’re fine, the next you’re out of breath because you put socks on.

That’s why my maternity sessions are kept relaxed, guided and very much designed around making you feel comfortable. No awkward guessing, no pressure to know what to do, and no expecting you to suddenly perform like you’re on a fashion shoot.

We take our time. We keep it calm. We make sure you feel looked after.

You can go soft and simple, a bit more styled, or somewhere in between. There’s no one way maternity photos “should” look.

The whole point is to capture this part of your story in a way that actually feels like you.

Newborn session FAQ, because I know there are always a few “but what if…” questions before booking.

When should I book?
Ideally while you’re still pregnant, using your due date as a guide. Once baby arrives, we can adjust the actual date if needed.

What if my baby doesn’t sleep?
That’s okay. Newborn sessions aren’t about forcing anything. There’s plenty of time for feeds, cuddles, changes and settling.

Do I need to bring outfits or props?
Nope. I have wraps, blankets, props and setups ready, so you don’t need to arrive with half the nursery packed.

Will you guide everything?
Yes. You don’t need to know what to do, where to put baby, or what will photograph well. I’ll talk you through it all and keep the session calm and safe from start to finish.

So if you’re expecting and you’ve been thinking “I must look into newborn photos at some point,” this is your nudge before baby decides to make an appearance.

Supervising your Saturday from the chair like…

"I am the boss around here"

I do love when families bring their dogs along, because let’s be honest, they’re not “just the dog”, are they? They’re part of the family, part of the chaos, and quite often the one who already thinks they’re in charge.

Pet portraits are a gorgeous way to capture their little personality properly, whether they’re calm and regal like this one, wildly enthusiastic, or somewhere between “best behaved in class” and “absolutely not reading the brief.”

Sessions are relaxed, friendly and guided, so you don’t need to worry about them being perfectly trained or knowing exactly what to do. We’ll work with their personality and get the photos that feel like them.

And sometimes, apparently, that personality is CEO of the chair.

Currently accepting applications for this level of calm.

Newborn sessions aren’t about rushing, forcing poses or hoping your baby magically “behaves” for the camera.

They’re about warmth, patience, safety and creating the kind of images that make you say “oh look how tiny they were” approximately 400 times in years to come.

If you’re expecting, it’s best to book while you’re still pregnant so we can plan around your due date.

The best time to book maternity photos is before you feel “ready.”

Because if you wait until you feel perfectly organised, fully confident, completely rested and totally on top of everything… well, the baby might be in secondary school by then.

Pregnancy is a lot. You’re thinking about appointments, names, birth plans, hospital bags, baby clothes, prams, sleep, feeding, and roughly 800 other things.

So I try to make the photoshoot part feel simple.

I’ll help with posing, styling, what to wear, where to stand, and all the bits people usually worry about. You don’t need to have it all figured out before you message me.

Most maternity sessions are best booked for around 28 to 34 weeks, when your bump is showing beautifully but you’re hopefully still comfortable enough to enjoy the session.

Securing your slot in advance, means there's more chance my availability will suit your schedule too.

You don’t need to feel like a “maternity photoshoot person” to book one.

A lot of mums tell me they’re not sure if maternity photos are really “them.”

They’re not models. They feel awkward in front of a camera. They don’t know what to wear. They’re not sure if they’ll feel confident enough on the day.

All completely normal. But they also don't want instructions barked at them either!

My job isn’t to make you feel like someone else. It’s to help you feel comfortable enough to be yourself, then guide you through the whole thing so you’re not stood there wondering what to do with your hands.

You don’t need to arrive feeling confident. You don’t need to know how to pose. You don’t even need to have a clear idea of what you want yet.

We’ll chat, I’ll guide you, and we’ll make it feel much easier than you’ve probably built it up to be in your head.

Because maternity photos don’t have to be dramatic or intimidating.

They can just be a really beautiful reminder of you, before everything changes again.

The famous love heart bowl.

If you’ve been here a while, you’ll probably recognise this little set up. It’s one of those props that parents always seem to smile at, and I can see why.

There’s something about seeing a tiny newborn curled up inside a heart that just says everything without needing to be overly sugary about it.

For me, it’s not about making the photo “cute” for the sake of it. It’s about creating a little visual reminder of how completely loved your baby was from the very beginning.
