September, to me, feels like an even better time for resolutions and starting new habits than the depths of January!
If you have been thinking about getting more creative, or dusting off your art supplies, why not join one of my groups? All are relaxed and low pressure - it's all about enjoying the process and learning to quieten the inner critic!
Doodles on Location: a chance to meet up and draw what you can see in front of you. I will help and guide anyone who needs support
Arty Tuesdays:
* There is a weekly Tuesday morning class where we do all sorts of arty explorations to fill our sketchbooks. This is booked in blocks of 6 weeks.
* Tuesday evening sketchbook journalling class. Learning how to create a visual diary based on a sketchbooking for wellbeing course I used to run with Community Action Dacorum. If you can draw something that resembles a line, a circle a rectangle and a triangle then we're good to go!

I'm fuming!
🚨 One day of rain and there's almost nowhere safe to swim anywhere on the British coast 🚨

check the water safety/ pollution apps before planning a swim!
Most of Britain's beaches are currently unsafe for swimming. Why? Because it looks like the water companies are pumping sewage directly into the sea.
It is literally sickening. It is a public health hazard,
We deserve clean seas, not toxic water.

All of them, pretty scrappy but the memories, not perfection, are the key reason for holiday journalling.

An update from Our Heath Barn 😊
Please browse their page if you haven't heard about this campaign. In a nutshell:

"Heath Barn is a 500-year-old Boxmoor landmark. We have until June 5th 2026 to secure it for the community and we need your support
Imagine a place in the heart of Boxmoor where you can grab a coffee, take a class, bring your kids, meet your neighbours and feel genuinely proud of where you live"

Evening folks and Happy Friday!

I realise we've been a little quiet of late. Things are ticking along nicely and there's a lot of work going on still behind the scenes.

As a reminder, the barn is on the open market until 4th september and we're hoping there will be little to no interest 🤞 Decision will be made at panel (amongst herts county council councillors) on the 1st October. We've been asked to consider including a few things to bolster our business plan which we're working on.

In other news, we've now submitted our application to Co-operatives UK to set up as a Charitable Community Benefit Society (becoming Our Heath Barn Limited) and we're hoping this can be registered with the Financial Conduct Authority fairly swiftly.

The next stage is to get the highly anticipated Community Share offer up and running and to convert all those lovely pledges to real money but we would love a designer to help create a quality prospectus to resemble something like this one from Stretford Public Hall (see link). We have been matched with Stretford Public Hall as our business peer mentors and couldn't be happier. Despite them being located in Manchester, we're aligned as a CCBS, our offering, values and the desire to steward a much loved heritage asset. We're looking for a designer who can create something high quality and beautifully designed like theirs and that will translate well both digitally and in print. We'll provide the copy and content.

Feeling like getting creative?
Two spaces are available on a bookbinding workshop on Saturday 15th August, 10am - 1pm. It's so satisfying to make a book from scratch - and easier than you might think!

My next block of Tuesday morning "Fill your sketchbook" sessions starts again in September. Fancy joining us in Rucklers Lane Hall for no pressure fun creativity? It's not fine art, but you will learn new techniques and skills while doodling, painting, collaging, printing and drawing.
