“To the beach!” I cried as I carried George to the car along with as many blankets & beach toys as I could carry.
We collected Oliver from school & set off on our adventure.
With the weather on the brink of turning into those cooler autumnal days, I wanted to make the most of the warm sunshine.
It seemed utterly bonkers, who in their right mind drives 2 hours to the beach after 3pm!?
But after months of being shut at home it felt wrong not to take every opportunity to get out & make as many new memories as we could.
The excitement as we arrived brimmed over & we ran as fast as our legs would carry us onto the sand.
Immediately rolling around & finding the perfect spot by the dunes.
We dug, raked & patted the sand, turning it into volcanos & mountain peaks.
Searching along the shoreline, the feathers we found became people & any shells were soon used to create paths, caves & secret tunnels.
We ran through the low tide, water splashing up our legs, spotting the little fish as they darted here & there.
Then as the sun started setting, the sky exploded into the most stunning display of warm reds, fire orange & yellows.
Once the sun was gone from sight we made our way back to the car & with both boys snuggled in pyjamas, their comforters in hand, we began the journey back.
When they woke the next morning George rubbed his eyes & asked whether it had all been a dream.
I showed him these photos & he smiled.
“Our adventure mummy” he said as Oliver brushed some sand that had managed to stow away in his hair.
“Let’s do more adventures mummy” ❤️
