I slightly underestimated this walk. 5.5 hours my walking book advised to get up on to Kinder Scout from Hayfield and return via Kinder Low but in reality I was out for nearly 8 hours. Good thing really as I could witness the glorious sunset from what felt like the top of the world.

A trip to Derwent Reservoir with my little boy Hamish. Quite a challenge to keep him entertained and also get a few good shots! We were treated to some wonderful cloud inversions on the way over, before parking up at Derwent and venturing into a spooky wood. The wood cleared into a field (Open Hagg) but the view was completely shrouded in cloud. After a little break for Hamish to stretch his legs the views to Kinder Scout and Lose Hill started to reveal themselves. We then took a wrong turn and ended up heading towards Derwent Dam but nonetheless we were treated to some wonderful views of the dam (where in World War II the 617 Squadron actually practised their 'Dambuster' runs. The real stars of the show - the wonderful autumn colours in those spooky woods!

Working from home, lunchtime, sun is shining - get out while you can. Hayfield - Little Hayfield - Park Hall Woods - Middle Moor - Shooting Cabin - Twenty Trees - Hayfield. Views to Kinder Scout, Mount Famine and South Head.

A family trip out to Dunham Massey, near Altrincham, on a gorgeous autumnal day. My son had a bit of a meltdown when we arrived; I think he was expecting lunch an hour earlier because of the clock change. But nothing that a nap couldn't take care of and we spent the rest of the afternoon taking in all the beautiful colours.
