Atlantic Puffin, Fratercula arctica.

When a Puffin lands back on Skomer Island after collecting fish it has to make a fast dash back to its burrow before it’s spotted by any nearby Gulls waiting to try and steal their fish!🐟

Swallow, Hirundo rustica.

Is this not the cutest little Swallow you’ve seen? There were so many young Swallows on Skomer Island this year lining trees and fences. This little one caught my attention as it was sat at the front of a tree💚

Atlantic Puffin, Fratercula arctica.

From the moment you get off the boat at Skomer Island there are Puffins everywhere! As I was walking up the stairs off the boat this little Puffin appeared from within the undergrowth🌿

Atlantic Puffin, Fratercula arctica.

I’m not sure this Puffin could carry another single piece of grass if it tried!🌿

Puffins will forage materials like grass to line their nests before they have a chick.

Atlantic Puffin, Fratercula arctica.

Puffins have a serrated bills which means they can hold the fish they catch in place as they fly back to their burrows to feed their growing chicks. I’m not sure this Puffin could carry anymore fish if it tried!🐟

Swallow, Hirundo rustica.

Swallows are common summer visitors to the UK, often building theirs nests on the farm buildings. When waiting for the boat over to Skomer Island I noticed a busy pair of Swallows flying around insecting and flying to the corner of one of the buildings to feed hungry chicks! For a brief moment one of the Swallows took a perch before flying around trying to catch more insects🐛

Atlantic Puffin, Fratercula arctica.

For a long time I’ve loved Puffins but have never had the chance to see them at the right time in the season for the classic Puffin with a bill full of small fish like sandeels. Until I visited Skomer late June this year and finally was able to get the shot I had in my head, makes the wait worth while!🧡🖤

Northern Gannet, Morus bassanus.

There is something special about watching Gannets. One of my favourites sights is when comes back to the nest and they begin greeting their partner by rubbing beaks and shaking their heads together🩵
