One the main images people look for when they photograph puffins is a puffin in flight with sand eels in the bill. A task easier said than done. These little birds can reach speeds of 55mph and with a head wind this already difficult take becomes a further challenge. Doesn’t stop us trying though ;).

Halfway way through the Skomer season now with . Every year I look forward to staying on this island off the coast of Wales. There are very few places in the UK where you can truly immerse yourself in nature where the wildlife is completely unbothered with you being there. The last two workshops are coming up so it is fair to say the puffin content from me is not finished.

Last of the brush tails from me. This is an Adélie penguin and is the smallest of the three species we saw whilst in Antarctica and they are the only one of those three species that winters in Antarctica as well. So these are hardy little fellows.

Thanks again to and for a great trip.

Happy this is one of the other brush tails I saw whilst in Antarctica last year. The mighty chinstrap. It seems like an age since I was there and it was the most incredible experience. Thank you to the team at for a great trip whilst on recce for .

Another gentoo in the snow I know but these guys were such great posers. Gentoo penguins were the largest of the brush tail penguins I saw on my trip to Antarctica. The other two species being chinstrap and adelie (I’ll post them next).

I have been terrible at posting lately so apologies for that. Here’s another one from my recent trip to Antarctica with and . This is a Brown Skua and one of the penguin’s main predators and threats especially during the breeding season. Like many other species of skua and some of the larger gull species these birds are kleptoparasites meaning that they will steal food or prey from another animal, in this case penguins. Kleptoparasitism is quite common in the animal kingdom and is most notably documented with spotted hyenas in Africa taking kills from leopards and wild dogs but this trait has also been observed in animals as small as bees 🤯. How incredible is that?

Young elephants seals are a lot more inquisitive than I imagined. Whilst waiting to get off a particularly windy landing a group of these curious pinnipeds came to see what we were doing on their beach. With a telephoto lens (and obviously keeping a respectful distance) I managed to get this close up portrait.

Merry Christmas everyone. Having just come back from the 7th continent I have plenty of snowy images that would be fit for a Christmas post but this one of a gentoo penguin from my very first Antarctic landing I think does the job. Thank you and for a great experience.

Although leopards may have been the highlight for many people during my last two weeks in South Luangwa leading for nothing compares for me to coming face to face with a wild elephant. Looking into the eyes of an elephant I am always struck by the wisdom and emotion that is reflected back by them. They have this unexplainable aura about them that deserves instant respect. I am missing seeing these guys everyday. Every sighting was incredible!

This time next week I will be on my way to Zambia specifically South Luangwa National Park, leading for . Here’s one of the highlights from last year’s trip. We were lucky enough to spend a considerable amount of time with 3 lion cubs roughly 3 months old. This particular time we visited them they played and rolled about around our vehicle for maybe 40-50minutes or so before their mum came and told them it was time to go somewhere else. Within this time their curiosity got the better of them and they came and checked us out allowing everyone to get some brilliant front on portraits. I can’t wait to be back out there and see if these cubs are still there and how they are doing now.

Deer have been my favourite subject to photograph ever since I started photography. Being out at the weekend reaffirmed this for me. Being out in the field with the very subject I learnt photography with was very special indeed. This was one of my favourite shots as the sun set over the New Forest Heath.
