Sam wanted a LinkedIn headshot with a bit more character.

Not something stiff or overly corporate, and not a photograph that could belong to anyone.

He wanted an image that felt professional but still showed his personality and the creative work he does.

That gave us a really clear direction for the session.

We played with expression, styling and the illustrated elements to create something that still works perfectly for LinkedIn, but feels much more like Sam.

wanted a headshot that represented both him and his work, and I think that’s exactly what a good LinkedIn profile photograph should do.

It should help people recognise you, remember you and get a sense of who they’re about to meet.

I photograph professionals, business owners and creatives from Hastings, St Leonards and across East Sussex, both at The Stables Theatre and on location.

One of the things I love most about teaching photography is seeing children start to notice things differently.

My photography courses for home-educated children are practical, creative and very hands-on. We explore how cameras work, experiment with light and composition, look at different styles of photography and give the children space to develop their own ideas.

They don’t need to arrive with loads of experience. The aim is to help them build confidence with a camera, try new things and enjoy creating photographs they’re proud of.

The sessions are designed specifically for home-educated children in East Sussex, with opportunities to learn alongside others in a relaxed, supportive environment.

What happens when you bring photographers, creative lighting, a brilliant burlesque performer and plenty of pizza together?

A very good evening at The Studio Hastings.

I love these Open Studio events because they give photographers the chance to experiment, try different lighting setups and learn from each other in a really relaxed setting.

This time we worked with portrait lighting, special effects and the brilliant Juniper Laine, while Studio Two gave people space to experiment with still-life photography too.

The next Open Studio at The Studio Hastings is on 1 October, and I’ll be there running a mini studio lighting presentation.

I’ll also be running an adult photography course at The Studio Hastings, so if you’re interested in learning more about lighting and portrait photography, keep an eye out for the details.

If you’re a photographer in Hastings, St Leonards or nearby and fancy trying something new, meeting other creatives and getting hands-on with studio lighting, this is a lovely one to come along to.
