'Remnants of the Past'

📍 Steetley Pier, Hartlepool.

It wasn't the most exciting sunset tonight, but it was nice to get out for a walk along the beach. Forgot my bloomin tripod 🙄, so had to shoot handheld long exposures. Schoolboy error!

This image captures a Geminid meteor striking Earth’s atmosphere during the 2025 Geminid Meteor Shower, photographed over Holy Island, Lindisfarne last year.

What makes this shot special isn’t just the meteor itself, it’s the consecutive frames revealing the vapour and dust trail left behind, slowly twisting and dispersing through the upper atmosphere long after the initial flash had vanished.

‘Llandudno Pier Sunrise’

📍Llandudno, North Wales.

Hard to believe I captured this almost 10 years ago now.
On that particular morning, the entire beach was scattered with hundreds of starfish, an unforgettable sight, and one I couldn’t resist featuring in the foreground.

This image has since been re-worked and presented in HDR (if your device supports it) over on my Instagram page 👉🏼 https://www.instagram.com/chameleon__360/ - giz a follow while you're there 😁

‘The Druid’s Temple’

I wasn’t going to post this… but here we are.

The original plan was a wide-angle foreground blended with a deep-sky capture of the Orion Nebula. Unfortunately, I forgot my laser pointer for polar aligning the star tracker, so the deep-sky shot never happened that night. As you can imagine, I was pretty gutted.

In the end, I settled for the natural night sky, with the Plough watching over the scene. I really liked the result - but it still felt like unfinished business.

So I decided to revisit the image and blend in an Orion Nebula capture from the archives instead.

The original is in the comments below, let me know which version you prefer 🌌✨

'The Druid's Temple'

Hidden deep in the woods near Masham in North Yorkshire, this eerie stone circle looks ancient… but it’s actually a 19th-century folly, built around 1820 by William Danby. Legend says he promised to pay local workers a day’s wage to build a temple that would last forever, and, well… it’s still standing. Over the years it’s picked up all sorts of druidic myths, pagan associations, and more than a few ghost stories.

Standing there under a clear, star-filled sky, with the stones lit and the forest completely dark around me, the atmosphere was something else. Add to that the unexplained noises echoing through the trees, snapping branches, distant rustling, and the kind of sounds that make you stop, listen… and seriously question your life choices 😅

Let’s just say I was very aware that I was alone.

Totally worth it though. One of the most atmospheric places I’ve ever photographed.

Would you brave it at night? 👀✨

'Geminid Meteor Shower 2025'

As the peak of the meteor shower coincides with terrible weather conditions tonight, last night’s forecast looked promising, so I headed up to Holy Island. Although the forecast suggested clear skies all night, long spells of cloud rolled in, but I still managed to see and capture plenty of meteors, including a huge fireball that skimmed across the entire sky before it burned out with a flash. Sadly, I was setting up, so I didn't get it on camera.
It was also the first proper outing for my new Canon R6 Mark III in low‑light conditions. Despite the bump in resolution, the high ISO files look clean, very much on par with the Mark II, which is reassuring for future night sky sessions.

A cold, windy, and very worthwhile night under the stars. This is a composite image.

'Flux'

This morning, I headed to Seaton Beach and experimented with a technique called ICM (Intentional Camera Movement).

For anyone who hasn’t come across ICM before, it’s a technique where you deliberately move the camera during a longer exposure. The idea isn’t to keep things sharp, but to create an abstract, painterly feel that captures movement and changing light.

I’ve titled this series Flux, inspired by the sea’s endless motion and the gradual shift of dawn light across the horizon.
