About Just Jaq

Based on the Essex, Suffolk Boarder, I provide a range of photography including; Engagement shoots, Weddings, Honeymoons, Hen Parties, Family days, Party documentation, Dance, Portraits, Cultural and Personal interests. My Approach

Genuine and sincere, I love getting to know people, taking notice, being creative and having fun and my aim is to tell your stories through the lens of my camera. My Philosophy

It’s all about experiencing the magic of photography and creating wonderful images that can keep your memories alive and stand the test of time! My Job

Drawing on 17 years experience of photography and fine art, working closely with artists, families and business's my job is to make the task of creating beautiful photographs, enjoyable and easy for everyone. My Aim

Wheather I am capturing the special moments of your wedding day, making memories with your family, helping you to record your interests, taking photos of your products or your work, making your portrait or “papping your party” I will be there for you. Some sessions stay with you long after the music has stopped. Photographing this celebration with Dave Rowland felt like documenting another special chapter in a story so many people have helped to create.

With Kev Beadle digging deep into his collection, the dancefloor was alive with movement, expression and individuality. Around it were reunions, conversations and the pleasure of welcoming new faces, including people who had travelled from Ireland and Japan to celebrate with us.

Dave captures the inside story from around the edges of the dancefloor, while I tend to immerse myself in the centre of the action. Together, our photographs bring those perspectives together, recording the dancing and the connections between people that make Shiftless Shuffle so special.

This session celebrated the release of Perry Louis presents Shiftless Shuffle Dance Floor Jazz, in association with Greg Boraman’s Impressive Collective on BBE Music. Seeing people take home signed copies, with all the records Greg brought selling out, was a wonderful moment to capture.

Having photographed Shiftless Shuffle over many years, seeing my photographs become part of the compilation’s artwork made this celebration particularly meaningful to me.

We’ve mixed the photographs across four albums, giving each one a taste of the whole session. We hope you’ll recognise a moment, a friend or a feeling that brings you straight back to the dancefloor.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed us and our cameras into the celebration.

The Light We Share

Yesterday, I spent some time watching the light travel through Mill Tye Gallery.

It moved across Dan Hussey’s chairs, drawing my eye to the grain of the wood and the curves of his craftsmanship. Later, their shadows stretched across the floor. I kept returning with my camera as the room changed around them.

That is one of the things I love about photographing an exhibition: it can reveal something new each time you look. Yesterday’s visitors brought their own stories to Captured Light too. I heard how Honor Surie’s paintings stirred memories, and saw how sitting in Dan’s chairs made space for conversation and connection.

I made this short video to share a little of what I noticed.

Sometimes a photograph begins with simply being interested in another person.

Last weekend I met artists Honor Surie and Dan Hussey as they arrived at Mill Tye Gallery with their work for Captured Light.
Honor and Dan are mother and son, with their own individual creative practices, connected by a love of the Suffolk landscape.
As we talked, paintings were unwrapped, furniture moved into place and I began to understand a little more about them and their work.

And somewhere amongst all of that, we made this portrait.
It wasn't planned. It grew from conversation, listening, looking and ultimately co-creating something together.

Perhaps we see differently when we understand more.
It was lovely to see one of the photographs from our time together accompanying a feature about Captured Light in the Suffolk Free Press this week.

A lovely surprise visit from Helena Powell

We had an unexpected visitor at Mill Tye Gallery when Helena Powell popped in to say hello — and brought her completed charity weave with her!

Created with contributions from visitors during Helena’s recent residency at the gallery, the weave carries with it the marks of many hands, conversations and shared moments.

It is now on its way to the framers before being auctioned in support of the East Anglian Air Ambulance — a wonderful next chapter for something that began here at Mill Tye.

And Helena certainly isn’t standing still either!

She is now preparing for London Design Festival, followed by The Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair in Manchester in October, before taking part in an exhibition with the Society of Designer Craftsmen in November.

It was wonderful to see her again and hear about everything that lies ahead.

We wish Helena every success with the next stage of her creative journey and hope it won’t be too long before she finds her way back to Mill Tye again.

Captured Light — coming to Mill Tye Gallery

A little behind-the-scenes glimpse as the gallery begins to transform for our next exhibition.

Captured Light brings together the handcrafted chairs of Dan Hussey and the paintings of Honour Surie, united by a shared response to the Suffolk landscape.

Furniture and painting sit alongside one another, exploring craftsmanship, place, material and the changing qualities of light that make our Suffolk landscape so distinctive.

Here’s a time-lapse of the team at work as the exhibition begins to take shape.

A Bank Holiday afternoon at Mill Tye Gallery

Looking for a relaxing way to spend the rest of your Bank Holiday Monday?

Peter and I are both at Mill Tye Gallery today, and we’d love you to call in and say hello.

If you’re out enjoying a walk along the river, exploring Great Cornard and Sudbury, or simply fancy spending a little time surrounded by art, we’re open until 4pm today.
