Tranquility

Back in 2023 we went away for our first Scotland roadtrip and the first of what now stands at 3 visits to the beautiful Kilchurn Castle. This was one of our first locations of the trip and it certainly didnt disappoint. An hour in the car watching it rain and eating our packed lunches before the rain stopped and the loch went still giving these beautiful reflection of the castle from across the Loch

Last Light

A photo from back in June 2024 when me and Laura Heanan first visited Wales with our cameras and our first stop was the beautiful Anglesey including South Stack lighthouse. The steps are an absolute killer but its a beauty of a view. We've actually been back here since but I havent been through those photos yet but I will eventually!

Whale of a Time

Well I may not have been today but it certainly looks different in photos Ive seen with the whalebones having been removed today. They're been taken away to be used as a mold for some brass replacements due in 2027 but until then Im sure it'll look strange until they arrive. This was one I took back in September last year when I hadn't had my camera out in a while so headed back to my happy place Whitby for a sunrise before work

Happy World Photography Day

I know Ive been very very quiet on here. Ive had a lot to get on with at the moment with a load of work to do at home and unfortunately I recently lost my Grandad after a long battle with cancer. He was one of my biggest supporters and a huge influence on me having spent so much time with him over the years and the moment I got the camera he was like "Where we going next to get you some photos then?". He was one of the first to buy a print from me and always was a big supporter of both me and my photography and I know he'd be desperate to see me getting back out there and taking new photos.

Things seem to be settling down now and I can't wait to get back out with camera in hand and enjoying the outdoors again. But for now here are an assortment of pictures from over the years.

December - Snowy Shoot

Where better to round off my calendar than a snow covered Roseberry Topping? While it would be lovely to go and photograph the snow all over the moors the combination of hilly roads, the lack of 4 wheel drive and not been a huge fan of driving in the snow it certainly comes in handy been able to walk to one of the most popular local landmarks. I did have to use a days worth of my holidays at work but it was well worth it to have a full day just to wander around the topping and grab loads of different shots of the snow-covered matterhorn.

November - Lights Out

A productive still night spent on the banks of the River Tees saw us photographing two of Middlesbrough's iconic bridges with Newport Bridge sandwiched between a few different views of the Transporter Bridge. Having taken photos of the transporter from the Port Clarence side of the river we headed for Newport to make the most of the calm waters and capture this reflection photo. Little did we know we didn't have long there once setting our shots up before the bridge plummeted into darkness as it was on a timer so I didn't get chance to take any other compositions on this visit.

October - Flying Through

I had a couple of people mention that they'd missed there been a steam train in the 2026 calendar so I decided to add one onto my 2027 and what better opportunity than when the Flying Scotsman visited the North Yorkshire Moors Railway towards the end of 2025 to grab a new photo for the 2027 calendar. We opted to go see the first train of the day hoping for quieter platforms and it worked on the whole as I dread to think how much busier it would've been for the next trip through

September - Depth of Field

The first image taken by my drone to appear in one of my calendars and one of the shots I had in mind when buying the drone. Looking down on a part harvested field and another image from a field I've heavily photographed due to knowing the farmer and it certainly helps knowing when the combine is going in to capture it at work rather than driving round aimlessly hoping to find one working the fields

August - Chicane

Now this photo very narrowly missed out on my 2026 calendar and only because the front cover of it ended up becoming August and it was very nearly a repeat this year however I decided to keep that one for another year instead. This was a shot I'd lined up when on a walk with my friend which ended with us walking along the public footpath out the back of the priory before returning the next night with the camera

July - Whale of a Time

After a very busy start to the year involving selling my house and buying and renovating another with Laura I'd barely picked my camera up and as is so often the case when I'm struggling for motivation or ideas I head to my happy place that is Whitby and I forget all about it. A pre-work sunrise spent at the Whitby whalebone arch was certainly a special one to get me back in the groove and even if it hadn't its never a waste of time anyway. I ended up using the beautiful flower baskets to hide some of the pavement and add a pop of colour while the sun did the same in the sky with a beautiful sunrise glow.
