On the in lieu of blowing out candles on a cake, I’d like to tell celebrate an incredible midwife I know. Tanya works in the Home Birth Team. She also happens to be a sensational human.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
She was present at the first I photographed, and she was alongside this family when they needed to pop in to hospital after Kid No.3 tried to stay put too long.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Without her skill, care and general brilliance, things may have been very different for this little one. Here he is meeting his Dad for the very first time, before we knew he was a he and after we’d seen his Mum rushed to surgery for a crash caesarean, Tanya alongside her every single step of the way.

I don’t usually photograph midwives during a birth, but Dad asked for that final image in particular. To remember her and the work that she did that day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I wanted to share it to celebrate the work that the people of the NHS do every single day and night. It’s our national jewel. It really is. We have to nurture and support it. It’s no longer a newborn institution. It’s old and a bit creaky. But we owe it. And many of us owe our tomorrows to it as well.

Delighted to see my birth stories featured in The Independent today in a very positive article. Thank you so much to the parents that share their birth stories and help to demystify the process for everyone. You are splendid humans. And just so happen to produce glorious offspring as well.

I love a good chat. Especially when I get to stay in my pyjamas and not brush my hair. Here's one I had with a lovely lady called Jenny about the work I do and the projects I photograph.

Currently revisiting my misspent youth. Which was misspent because I never read the Harry Potter books.

The shame. The shock. The horror.

Now I'm mid-30s and besotted with them. So whilst I trawl local secondhand bookshops, looking for the correct series, in good condition, this little bit of animated magic pops up in my feed. Hope you enjoy it as well!
