Along overdue visit to Flodden Field , a very quiet and peaceful place now, The battle began at 4pm on the 9th Sept 1513.By 7pm, 10,000 Scottish lives had been lost. Among the dead was King James IV. Respected throughout Europe and known for his great learning, his death was a tragedy. This would be the last time a British monarch would fall in battle. This disaster for the Scots annililated generations of Scottish Ancestry . A battle that should never have been lost as the Scots gave up the advantge of the hill you see behind the cross, the slaughter took place at the bottom of that hill in the mud after a day of heavy rain. The song the Flooers o the Forest was written for this day and is mostly now played on the pipes at funerals and memorial services Ive heard some say they wont play it at any other event. I have attached a version for you. The Saltire in the Sky was my addition to honor the fallen.
