I would like to share some of my grandfathers memorabilia from the Great War, He was a sapper in the Royal Engineers, . We have his 3 medals his sergeants stripes but for me best of all his little Bible with some pressed flowers in it. I cannot say with any certainty where they were picked but I know his regiment served at the Somme, Very special thing to have.

All myths begin
With the rise and fall of the sun
So let’s start there
Or just before

Sit by me now
The circle of us a crown on the hilltop
The shiver of night air, cold as stars
Light still a promise behind the far rise

Winters on its way sson ..The Beautiful Rannoch Moor

Today 24th June marks the final day of the Battle of Bannockburn. A battle that started the day before with Robert The Bruce splitting his favorite axe on the Head of English Knight Henry De Bohun. It ended in a route. The Battle of Bannockburn was more than just a clash between Scottish and English forces; it was a symbol of Scotland’s unwavering fight for independence. Robert the Bruce led his army with unmatched bravery and strategic prowess, triumphing against the odds against one of the mightiest armies in Europe at the time.

I hope my image does the day justice thanks for looking.

Along overdue visit to Flodden Field , a very quiet and peaceful place now, The battle began at 4pm on the 9th Sept 1513.By 7pm, 10,000 Scottish lives had been lost. Among the dead was King James IV. Respected throughout Europe and known for his great learning, his death was a tragedy. This would be the last time a British monarch would fall in battle. This disaster for the Scots annililated generations of Scottish Ancestry . A battle that should never have been lost as the Scots gave up the advantge of the hill you see behind the cross, the slaughter took place at the bottom of that hill in the mud after a day of heavy rain. The song the Flooers o the Forest was written for this day and is mostly now played on the pipes at funerals and memorial services Ive heard some say they wont play it at any other event. I have attached a version for you. The Saltire in the Sky was my addition to honor the fallen.
