Taken at WWT Slimbridge.

This is my first sighting of these day flying moths this year. I was lucky enough to find at least 5 on the same Buddleia plant at Slimbridge WWT centre. They are migratory and migrate from Southern Europe and North Africa. Total lifespan is around 7 months. They are reported to be breeding now in the UK, but they are unlikely to survive cold winters here.

Daneway Banks NR Glos UK

Painted lady butterfly, one of 16 species of butterfly spotted at this site today. Painted lady butterflies are migratory, coming to the UK from Africa. This year has seen a large influx of these large and stunning creatures.

Daneway Banks NR Glos

Daneway Banks NR was awash with common blues when a small copper appeared. I followed it, hoping for a shot when it flew past these mating Brown Argus. Brown Argus are even smaller than the blues and are easily overlooked. So finding a mating pair was a real treat.

Noticed there was a rainbow, so I waited for a bird with good positioning to fly past or perch in a tree. Luckily, this Jackdaw appeared! I also like the moody sky.
