Time through pictures

The Daily Record has put together 17 photos of everyday life in Scotland back in the 1960s that will take you back 60 years in time before an age of social media and the internet.

Now this is a better result from merging multiple exposures - altho probably doesn't look it. It is actually creating a longer exposure drone image with the stongest ND filter I have (256), using a 5 shot burst. So each photo was about .25 seconds, and the final therefore 1.25 secs. Likely max with this drone is about 0.5 secs usable, so 2.5 secs final outcome (smaller sensors work longer - maybe 2 secs per shot). More waffle in comments.

I have been trying to revise Photoshop, and get my head around multiple exposure stuff. It is not going very well.

Did a photo workshop on the Moray Firth with Kim Grant whose videos sometimes get shared on here. The East Coast of Scotland gets a quarter as much rain as the West, and has great light and subject matter.

Maybe you know how in music, part of the art is to trick the ear into hearing a note that isn't being played (when you are messing about with a chord for example)? Similar happens in photography, where sometimes the eye sees something that isn't there; or gives an extra emphasis to something that is there, so that your carefully crafted composition doesn't work for that eye.

Some may think it is magic, and perhaps people were burned at the stake for it in the old days. However, I think that there are explanations in places like psychology and physiology, which are too complicated for me to understand.

Well now, one of the most difficult questions of the age. If using proper cameras (i.e. not phones) - what do we actually DO with all those digital images?

I helped a friend get off "auto" on a Canon G9X, by putting together a collection of "macro" settings (centre point focusing, close-up and continuous AF, continuous shooting, etc.) on to the custom or C1 mode. Then we practised on this frog. 99% of the time "auto" is just fine, but you really need to get off it if you want to do more specialist stuff like macro.
