Chris Thomson Photography

Chris Thomson Photography Landscape and Commercial photographer based in Glasgow, Scotland. These and a few other reasons are why I’m so passionate about photography.

I’ve always been a creative and artistic individual growing up but struggled with ways in which I could express that side of me. I went through several mediums and in the end I only connected with two - Drawing and Photography. My parents picked up on the fact I had an interest in photography and they knew I had a keen eye for it just from images taken on my phone. Christmas 2015 is when I got my

first camera which was a Fujifilm Finepix S6800 and I’m sure we all remember that feeling of getting your first camera and how you just want to get out and photograph everything. I would say that through 2016 I pretty much used it as a point and shoot with not a whole lot of thought behind why, but coming in to 2017 I started to develop far more interest as I knew it wasn’t just a phase. I began to dig deeper and started to use various applications such as books / magazines, working through a number of online courses, taking inspiration from other photographers / content creators and just getting out into the field as much as possible in order to develop my skill set. Fast forward a few years, a few quick years might I add, it’s turned from what just an interest in to a passion. Getting out exploring and discovering new locations is one of the driving factors behind my motivation. I enjoy the adrenaline rush you get from waiting in anticipation as to what the light and weather will do and ultimately how the scene will unfold. It doesn’t always go the way you plan but that’s just photography, however, when it does work out, you really can capture beautiful images and witness some pretty special moments like the image above of Loch Achtriochtan, Glencoe, taken at sunrise. That being said photography shouldn’t just be about capturing the moment - for me it’s so much more, It’s the story behind the image, it’s about conveying emotion, it’s the mental / physical health benefits and of course the people you meet along the way who are potentially on their own photography journey or they may just be an avid hiker or someone who is genuinely just intrigued. I genuinely hope you take some inspiration from this. Do what you love and enjoy just being in the moment.

A casual Saturday stroll around the city, no purpose, just getting out and going a wander. You don’t have to always have an agenda, it’s good to just get out.

Why? Shapes, patterns, design, intent behind the design, how the light falls on the building. These are just several reasons.

Been a little bit quiet on here lately - mainly because I’ve been out and about in the field and only just getting around to editing images 😅

Here’s one taken several weeks back on a very cold and misty morning

Rannoch Moor taking a bath in some warm golden light, whilst a foreboding sky approaches.

Besides the views I really enjoy how changeable the weather conditions can be, some days provide more variety than others but nonetheless there’s always plenty of opportunities to be had.

There’s going to be a lot of time spent this year exploring new locations, looking for new and unique perspectives but more importantly just being out in the field more this year.

I put too much emphasis on myself last year to always come away with a portfolio piece anytime I went out which is unrealistic and as you can imagine, motivation dipped and less time spent out with the camera.

This year it’s all about just getting out and just enjoying the process - portfolio images or not.

Bit of a long caption from me tonight! 😅

Found myself walking back to the car after capturing a different image with the intention of heading home (to follow during the week) when this scene came in to view. Always expect the unexpected with photography. It’s a proper creative buzz when it happens - anyone else get the same way?

Hope you like and enjoy your weekend!
