For the longest time, I've wanted to create a portrait that captures how I truly see parents: as literal superheroes.

And I mean that with every ounce of sincerity.
Because I get to witness it constantly: at birth, when their children are older, and every stage in between.

And what strikes me every single time is that every age, every phase brings a brand new challenge, and not once do you turn away from it.
I don't know how you do it all. I really don't.

The patience. The care. The time, the love, the commitment, the dedication, day in and day out, without question.
You are there for all of it.

When they discover something new about the world. When they fall and you kiss their knees better. When they fall in love for the first time, and when their heart breaks for the first time, you are always the first person they turn to.
And you show up for them, no matter what you might be carrying yourself that day.

And that? That is so incredibly powerful.

When I asked Rebekah if she'd be okay holding both her kids at the same time, and whether I could help at all, she gave me the most generous smile, laughed "noooo I do this all the time, you're good" and simply picked them both up, perfectly balanced.

A baby and a toddler, one in each arm, like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Because for her, it is.

This one is for all the parents out there.
You might not always feel like this is how you look as a parent, but know that everyone around you does.

You are powerful, and you deserve to be seen that way. 🤍
When did you last let yourself be seen as the superhero you are?

With the incredible

I know I'm massively biased as a photographer, but trust me when I say this: take the photo of your pregnant belly.

Maybe you're not feeling your best right now.
Maybe confidence is the last thing on your mind, or maybe you're absolutely glowing.
Whatever you're feeling, please capture this moment.

At the very minimum, a couple of snaps on your phone.
At the very best? A full maternity photoshoot experience!

This pregnancy is unrepeatable.
I've lost count of the number of parents who look back and say 'I wish I had...', and the regret in their voices is real.

You will never, ever regret taking the time for it.
You will however, regret not having done so.

Also: I thought this was such a powerful portrait that I couldn't choose between colour and black/white! Which one do you prefer?

Throwback to this breathtaking moment.

Years later, this photograph still finds its way into conversations when I’m lucky enough to meet some of you.

Holding her baby and placenta, taking a moment to just... be.

I’m always so moved hearing how this photograph has stayed with you; how it’s warmed your heart, shifted your view of birth, or been seen as something more… a piece of art. “Like a Renaissance painting,” some of you have said!

I’d love to know, what does this photograph stir in you?❤

It has been way too long since I've posted one of these beautiful placentas, so... here we go!

I always find it funny how placenta's have us in different camps.
Some are absolutely fascinated by them, and others... well, they would rather not look at them at all!
In which camp do you find yourself?!

Either way is totally fine; I'm absolutely in the first camp; no matter how many I see, I'm always fascinated by this beautiful organ.

I also hear that lots of the placenta photographs that I've had the consent for of posting here, are being used for educational purposes!
How amazing is that?!

Throwback to these utter cuties!

In the rhythm of everyday life, feeding often happens quietly and repeatedly throughout the day.
It becomes part of the background of parenthood, something you simply do.

However, I so wish more people would take the time to document this chapter!

Feeding your baby, whether through breast, chest, or bottle, is often one of the most intimate and demanding parts of early parenthood.

Some days it feels beautifully natural. Other days, it may feel exhausting, emotional, or uncertain. And often, it is all of these things at once.

And that beautiful windy journey, should be honoured and celebrated ❤📸

Some parents choose to document this chapter in the early months, while others feel drawn to mark this chapter just before their little one begins to wean❤

If you’ve read the previous birth stories, you know that I always write birth stories from my perspective as a birth photographer with all the consent in place!

However, Rebekah also would like to share her point of view from her very own story!

So sit back, enjoy, while you can read Rebekah’s own words on her home birth in Glasgow; on the blog today❤

What is birth photography… really?

Most of us have experienced photography long before becoming parents.
Think of school photos, family portraits, wedding days etc.

So when we hear the word photography, we often carry certain assumptions: about posing, about smiling for the camera, and having a photographer telling you what to do.

But birth photography is unlike any of those experiences.

Birth photography is true documentary storytelling.

It’s about the quiet squeeze of a hand.
The way your partner looks at you when you don’t even realise.
The strength in your face when you think you can’t go on, but you do!
It’s about documenting the very beginning of your child’s story with care.
About honouring your journey, wherever and however it unfolds.

And I know, for many people, the first reaction is often:
“Who would want to have that documented?!”
I truly get it.

If you’ve never seen birth photography before, or never heard anyone speak about it, it can feel surprising at first. Especially here in Scotland, where it’s still something many parents haven’t been exposed to.

But if you allow yourself to stay open…
If you let curiosity lead instead of hesitation…

You may begin to see the value in having these life-changing moments documented, not just for yourself, but one day, for your little one.

Most of my clients begin exactly there: curious.
You simply have to want to remember. To honour this chapter in your life with care and intention.

I work quietly and respectfully, always within hospital or home birth guidelines. Your privacy is protected. Your comfort is always my top priority.

If you’re expecting in Glasgow or anywhere across Scotland and wondering whether birth photography might be for you, my inbox is always open 🤍

From misty mountains in Glencoe… to a living room water birth… to blue lights in the middle of the night.

This story holds so much of what birth really is: the waiting, the doubt, the laughter, the strength, the unexpected turns, and the overwhelming love when a baby is welcomed earth side.

I’ve written their full story on the blog from my point of view, and soon you will also be able to read Rebekah's point of view too!

If you’d like to step inside this birth space with us and read how it all unfolded, you can find the link down below🤍

Thank you, as always, to the families who trust me to witness and document these once-in-a-lifetime moments.

Please make sure you also follow cause she is simply amazing!

Your birth matters.
Your voice matters.
Your story matters.

As a birth photographer I'm someone who documents one of the most powerful moments of your life so those memories are held, honoured, and passed on. Moments we can return to, talk about, and share.

Using my own voice can feel scary, because it is.
But so many of you place your trust in me during one of your most intimate moments. I witness your baby entering the world. I see the tears of joy, the quiet worries, and the moments of uncertainty about making “the right choice.”

I want you to know this: your rights matter to me.
Deeply.
I will always do my best to honour them, protect them, and validate them: even though my role in your birth is a passive one.
I stand in your space with a camera in my hands, bearing witness and documenting the moments.

There is a lot happening in the birth world right now in the UK and beyond.
Midwives are fighting for the bare minimum: safe staffing levels and humane working hours.
Suspending and/or restricting home birth services.
Doulas are scrutinised in headlines designed to point fingers rather than tell the truth, spreading fear instead of understanding.
Women are being set toe to toe against other women, divided instead of supported.

How your birth unfolds says nothing about who you are as a parent.
It says everything about the system you were navigating.

It is always time to speak up: but now more than ever.
As photographers, we have a responsibility too.
We witness these moments.
We document them.
And with consent, it is also our role to share these stories, to raise awareness, and to shine a light on what is really happening.

There is no “right” or “wrong” way to give birth.
There is only birth.

I am often asked whether I only document certain kinds of births, and that question truly breaks my heart.
I photograph birth, I photograph your story, no matter how it unfolds or where you choose to give birth.❤
