During Miami Swim Week 2025, model and new mom Mara Martin captured global attention when she confidently walked the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit runway while bre@stfeeding her 5-month-old daughter. Dressed in a sparkling gold bikini, Mara cradled her little one—who wore adorable blue earmuffs to protect her from the loud music—earning loud applause from the audience for the empowering display of modern motherhood.

Hailing from Michigan, Mara was one of 16 finalists chosen to shine at the iconic W South Beach Hotel. After the show, she shared on Instagram that she never expected the moment to go viral. Her goal, she said, was to normalize bre@stfeeding in public and show that mothers can combine confidence, style, and childcare effortlessly.

Mara also praised her fellow runway stars, which included a Paralympic athlete, a military recruit, and a cancer survivor, noting that each woman symbolized strength, courage, and empowerment in her own way.

This historic runway moment sparked discussions worldwide about motherhood, fashion, and female empowerment, proving that women can redefine beauty standards while embracing their natural, nurturing roles.

L The incident involving photographer Miles Astray at the 1839 Photography Awards highlights the ongoing tensions between traditional and AI-generated art.

Astray’s photograph of a flamingo, titled “F L A M I N G O N E,” initially won first place in the AI category of the People’s Vote Award and third place in the juried prizes. His intent was to emphasize the enduring relevance and emotional depth of human-made art amidst the rise of AI-generated content.

However, upon discovering that the photograph was not AI-generated, contest organizers disqualified Astray and removed his work from the website, stressing the importance of adhering to category criteria for fair competition. "Each category has distinct criteria that entrants’ images must meet,” the competition’s organizers told PetaPixel. “His submission did not meet the requirements for the AI-generated image category. We understand that was the point, but we don’t want to prevent other artists from their shot at winning in the AI category.”

Despite the disqualification, Astray considered the outcome a victory for human creativity and hoped it would lead to greater recognition of the value of human-made art.

Martina Tuskova is a photographer from Slovakia now based in Paisley and is a recent graduate of Gray’s School of Art. Her practice includes experimentation with different media and photographic techniques such as printmaking, cyanotype and splashing developer on the photographic paper. She believes that allowing ourselves to become children again in the process of creation can lead to magic. Her aim with this project was to discover and compare the fragility and power of nature. Capturing flowers and comparing them to the human body and looking at similarities of lines and construction. She says “We are isolating ourselves from nature every decade more and more. I have observed the aspects of disconnection and reconnection.”
