The Isle of Portland is an island - almost - in the English Channel, joined to the mainland by the end of the famous Chesil Beach tombolo. These are photos of from a helicopter photo set I was lucky to grab while on another job and includes a particularly nice night shot of the famous Portland Bill lighthouse. The all-white inland lighyhouse lighthouse was once the home of Marie Stopes, the famous feminist pioneer. The Portland Bill lighthouse night shot is almost straight out of the camera, with foreground illumination but little in the way of Photoshop.

I was driving up the Clyde coast on the 18th of June 2007 just as the Sun was going down. I stopped and grabbed seven shots for a panorama with a Fuji S9600 bridge camera, but for some reason never stacked them. Today, I finally did - nearly 20 years later! The sky was really this dramatic, this is more-or-less straight out of the box. Hint: underexpose the Sun when it is setting!

Ruined Ruthven Barracks near Kingussie on a grim February afternoon. I’ve been driving past here for thirty years and at last had time, weather, light and the rest coming together for some photography. This is a four-shot panorama.

Not at all sure this party thing was a good idea. Far too loud and busy for me!

Tonight I photographed Comet Atlas (etc) (in the centre of the screengrab, just visible) but didn't see it visually. And I saw my first Starlink train, dozens of satellites in a line across the sky!

The comet *is* there - the centre spot in the first image with a tail stretching up to 10 o'clock. I saw it with the naked eye earlier in the week when it was far brighter but clouds rolled in before I could get a picture.

Aurora images from Queen's View, north of Glasgow this evening. The red and green curtains were visible to the not-very-well dark-adapted naked eye. There was an 'umbrella', with spokes, directly above. Shot on a Nikon D7000 with a Samyang fisheye lens.
