Porto Travel Photography Tour - Six Bridges, A Few Barrels Of Wine And Sunset Views To Die For | 4th - 7th September, 2026

Porto's Dom Luís I Bridge, one of the six featured in our Porto photography tour, has been photographed countless times. Most visitors arrive, make the expected image, and continue on their way.

But what happens if you return at first light, and again at dusk? If you move closer, then further away. If you explore the geometry of its ironwork, the rhythm of the pedestrians crossing above, the reflections shifting below. If you allow weather, atmosphere and chance encounters to shape the frame?

The most rewarding photographs sometimes come from discovering a new way of looking at familiar subjects.

Our Porto tour with Damien Demolder Photography allows you to take time as we move around the city, working each opportunity to explore the possible angles and to ensure we come home with stunning images and fantastic memories.

Of course, no visit to this historic UNESCO World Heritage Site would be complete without a chance to photograph the gigantic barrels of ageing port or the chance to taste what’s inside - we’ll visit a port lodge and hopefully see the last remaining coppers mending their barrels, before sampling the delights those barrels contained.

NEW TOUR: The Heart of Timeless France, The Lot & Dordogne Photography Tour | 11th – 17th May, 2027
With tutors Charlie Waite and Astrid McGechan

Taking place in May 2027, this tour explores one of France’s most enchanting yet often overlooked regions, where winding rivers, golden-stone villages, orchards, walnut groves, ancient châteaux and pastoral valleys combine to create a landscape of quiet beauty and endless photographic opportunity. Spring is a particularly magical time to visit, with blossoming orchards, fresh green foliage, wildflowers and the possibility of vibrant poppies adding colour and life to the countryside.

Our journey will take us through the picturesque Lot and Dordogne, from the hilltop village of Loubressac and the riverside charm of Carennac to the historic streets of Sarlat and beyond. Along the way, Charlie and Astrid will help you develop stronger, more personal images, encouraging you to work with light, composition, atmosphere and detail while responding creatively to the landscape around you. With just eight places available, this promises to be an intimate and inspiring exploration of one of France’s most timeless and photogenic regions.

In the reel we posted on Monday, Charlie Waite described Kerala as one of the most extraordinary places he has ever visited. It is a view shared by former traveller Howard Somerville, who went to Kerala in 2024 with Charlie.

In his blog, Howard describes how he returned with "an excellent bag of pictures" from one of the most photogenic regions he has visited.

Having travelled on many small-group tours, Howard highlighted what made the Light & Land experience different. Rather than watching potential photographs disappear through the window of a moving vehicle, the itinerary was built around photography. Time was allowed for careful composition, changing lenses, exploring locations fully and stopping whenever opportunities presented themselves.

For Howard, Kerala offered an extraordinary variety of subjects. Bustling fishing harbours, colourful markets, tea plantations, wildlife, mountain landscapes, village life and the tranquil backwaters all provided endless photographic possibilities. Just as importantly, the group enjoyed access to local culture, exceptional guiding and the relaxed pace that allows photographers to immerse themselves in a destination.

Howard also praised Charlie and guide Suresh for their knowledge, local connections and ability to create meaningful encounters with the people and places that make Kerala so special.

With just one place remaining on Charlie's 2026 departure, now is the perfect time to discover Kerala for yourself.

Over on Instagram, Light & Land tutor Peter Fenech () explains why he loves running workshops. Find out more about this Edinburgh workshop at https://www.lightandland.co.uk/photography-tours/gothic-edinburgh-a-street-and-architecture-photography-workshop-sep-26

"Gotta love a decent spiral! Edinburgh is full of little nooks and corners like this. It's one of the reasons I love exploring it with a camera.

Another reason I love running photography workshops is that, during the recce stage, which is when I shot this one, it forces you to dive in deep and find the best elements of a location."
