Its been a long time since I done any photography but I'm starting to get back into it again, and good way to kick off is a visit to a sea bird colony. The Isle of May is a great place to get close to plenty of birds and its hard not to get at least a few good photos.
Thankfully it doesn't look like its been hit quite as bad by bird flu as Bass Rock (that had a lot of dead gannets on the cliffs and in the water). Even so I was lucky to get one of the last trips that landed as all boats have now been stopped.

Our garden hedgehog has started to appear again.
These were taken over a few evenings where at times it come so close I couldn't focus, and even left a nose dab on my lens!
Most of these were taken in low light so my old DSLR camera struggled.
It also seems to have a large amount of ticks around the left ear and neck, and does a lot of scratching.

Its been some time but the local Barn Owls have got me out with the camera the last couple of evenings.

We have a regular visitor to the garden now.....encouraged by a tasty pot of food put down for it each evening.

I see trips to land on Bass Rock are now available to get close up to the . I went a few years back as a photo competition prize and thought it was amazing. The sights, sounds and smell was something you don't forget in a hurry! I certainly recommend taking the chance to go if you can.

A few photos quickly picked out from a recent trip to Orkney. Mostly seabirds from around the wild coastline.

Had a great time watching the birds flying at Kielder Birds Of Prey Centre today. Thanks to everyone at the centre for being so friendly. Here are a few photographs I got on the day.

Some more hare photography on the fields behind the house today. This one come up to me as I hid behind a stone wall in a very uncomfortable position, but I dared not move. After about10 minutes I was willing it to run away!
It did and then stood up at a distance to get a better look, as I tried to get the feeling back in my legs.

I spent part of the weekend crawling around on a woodland floor, which is always good fun! A whole host of new photographs can be got by moving less than a few feet.
I also played around with a 14mm wide angle lens, which means getting up very close to the subjects....sometimes touching them.
The direct sun was not ideal for photographing the little patch of Bluebells I found (overcast skys are always better for bringing out the colours and keeping the contrast down), or the white of the Few-Flowered Leek, a plant that seem to be everywhere in woods or river banks this time of year.

Interesting questions raised again about 'real' or fake wildlife photos and every grey area in-between. This is a cracking photo without knowing anything else about it.
So does it change before your eyes now that you know about the Anteater?
If a captive (live) Anteater was used instead, would that change how you see the photo?
Would knowing that all the colours and light levels have been changed later in Photoshop also make it different?

Its interesting what people assume has gone into taking a wildlife photograph and how the image can quickly change in front of them if those assumptions aren't met.

For me I always try and take the photo as 'real' as possible. But it makes wow photographs like this (now expected for competitions and magazines) much harder to achieve.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year excludes a winning image for featuring a taxidermy specimen.

I've not posted anything here for some time mainly due to the fact I had a rest from doing any photography. There were a number of reasons but one being it was not as enjoyable as it used to be.
However I'm starting back, with new ideas and a new outlook on what I want to do with my work, so I'll try and post more here as I continue.
A quick walk around the fields by the house today started the ball rolling. Nothing ground breaking, but I had trouble hiding from the deer and hare with a flock of sheep following me around the fields edge!
