N O W P L A Y I N G : ‘Pyro by Kings of Leon’ // It’s rosy cheek season in the North East.

There’s very little going down other than shorter days, longer sleeps and a fire always on. ✨

Happy half term 💫

N O W P L A Y I N G : ‘Weather with you’ by Crowded House // One of my early memories of this song was being in the Lake District as a kid, and obviously it was raining. I remember being in the car on the winding roads and how we called raincoats ‘cagoules.’ Don’t think I’ve ever actually heard that word again in my adult life.

Half term is here and we are all ready for it (read crawling over the line ready for a really big sleep.) I have always loved the October break, it’s the start of the festive seasons and I’m here for that too. ✨

I’m still editing October albums. I still have a plan to get a social media strategy. I still have an aspiration to update my website. I’m also in on the final book of The Throne of Glass series and once that’s finished I can probably go back to a more typical genre for me. I really need closure though so we continue. On the upside I’ll be doing it in my best place by the sea. We take the wins. 🌊❤️

Whilst I decide what I’m going to eventually post, here are a few shots from our trip to last weekend in the driving rain. Proper belly laughs and some light colds all round.

Happy Friday folks. 💫

N O W P L A Y I N G : ‘Santiago’ by Ludovico Einaudi // (NGL oscillating wildly between this and Taylor) Hello! It’s Monday. I’m on my way out to Ripon for today’s 📸 session – October has been wild and I can’t lie, I have absolutely no idea what to post (one day I’ll get a socials strategy but it isn’t today ✌️) It has been my busiest month ever since setting up on my own, so we take the wins. So many people welcoming me into their families and businesses, and family businesses. I don’t have a lot of sessions available for the rest of the year now, so if you’re thinking about it for 2025, now’s the time. ✨

It’s always important to stay honest, and life has definitely been lifing away in the background too. There’s been plenty of juggle, a few tricky ‘teachable moments’ for me, and plenty of feelings eaten. October has been a time for working through it all, being home with the fire on and getting as much sleep as possible. I’m here for that. 💫

My life goals right now are simply to keep all these memory cards in some sort of order until all these albums are delivered. Then I’m heading north to my 🌊.

Hope this week is what you need it to be. As they say, we move. ❤️

N O W P L A Y I N G : ‘My Sweet Refuge’ by Roo Panes // It’s Monday and there isn’t a massive amount of deep chat from me today. I’m locked down in my editing corner and after sitting here freezing for a while, I got off my ass and figured out how to put the studio heating on and now my situation is improving immensely.

First up on the edit list are our family sessions from last Saturday where I had such a warm welcome and loved seeing so many familiar faces. It’s what makes it all worthwhile. If you joined us, follow on to hear more about when you can expect to receive your galleries. Admittedly it will be quicker now my hands aren’t frozen. 💫

I think we’re officially in marshmallow season. 🔥

When was the last time you were all in the photo? 📸

N O W P L A Y I N G : ‘Life in a northern town’ by The Dream Academy // It was a home from home weekend for us - sharing the beach with Storm Amy was a vibe but there’s nowhere on earth I’d rather be. 🌊

Monday again already ✨✌️

I T’ S P E R S O N A L // Branding photography is a catchall term for endless project potential. No two branding sessions are the same, because even if they have common ground, no two brands are exactly the same.

Here are three things I’ll be doing from the very beginning of our time together, which will mean you walk away with an album that you can’t wait to get out there.

It all starts with a brew. 🫖

Thank you to the fabulous for having me 💫📸.

Q U I E T W E E K E N D I N G // Plans cancelled for torrential rain then blue skies arriving out of nowhere / get that run in / eggs for breakfast / should probably use that membership again / why must he carry this stick everywhere / working spaniel mind blown by billions of pheasants / moaning about being hungry / do a little dance in the temple with the stick / moaning about being tired / the sun is out / look at the light coming through the trees / the coffee is good / fall asleep in the back of car / time together is winding down again.

Better make the pack ups then. ❤️👌🏻

N O W P L A Y I N G: ‘Rollercoaster’ by Bleachers // When I learnt the phrase ‘pre-emptive nostalgia’ on my MFA it was one of those times where you suddenly find the vocabulary that you never had, to articulate something you couldn’t pin down. It’s defined as the ‘bittersweet feeling’ of knowing you’re going to miss something. It looks forward, rather than back. You’re both living it and realising it won’t always be here.

I didn’t have the word for it when I started out, but now I know it is a huge part of why I take photos of my own family, my own experiences. Of course there are a million benefits to building a family album, but in some ways I see I’m protecting myself. Putting the breadcrumbs in place to lead me back to here when I need to come.

Here are my postcards from our most recent trip, an end-of-summer trek where we’ll look back at each time I pressed the shutter because I wanted to hold on to it. For them, but also for myself.

Pictures that remind us that we took a million trains, that I got aggy when they didn’t get deep into the history, that I don’t really like zoos but we ended up there and it was a peak family win, that we had to scrap sightseeing on our city break because it was 34 degrees and everyone was bitching about the heat, but we spent our days at the pool and in the end it all worked out because that’s what family life is. It’s an ‘on balance’ review and a feeling that we won’t have this time again.

I miss it already. ✨
