Join us at in Witham Friary, on Saturday the 16th of August for a magical morning of nature photography, creativity and outdoor fun — tailored for children ages 8 and up and their families. From 10am 'til 1pm. 🌿✨

With expert nature guide Nick Patel, and support from wildlife photographers and the wonderful , kids and teens will learn to capture the wild— from butterflies to big skies! 🐞📷

Do you know your Native English from Spanish Bluebells?

Bluebells love ancient woodland — cool, shady, and undisturbed. But our native is facing pressure from a stronger, showier rival.

Native vs Spanish bluebell:

Native: deep violet, drooping stems, white pollen sweet scent.

Spanish: upright stems, paler colour, little or no scent.

Hybrids: a mix of both — and a risk to our native's future.

🌿 Spanish bluebells spread fast and cross-breed.

🔔 Only 2% of wild natives show hybrid traits (Rusham et al., 2023) — but urban areas aren’t so lucky.

🌳 Ancient woodland covers just 3% of the UK, yet 43% of road schemes threaten it (Woodland Trust, 2023).

Let’s not let our true blue fade.
