Controversial I know but….Your wedding doesn’t actually need a wedding ceremony… 👀

Hear me out.

Jo & K had already done the legal bit earlier in the week.

So for their wedding celebration at Sullington Manor, they ditched the traditional wedding-day timeline completely.

No aisle.
No vows.
No waiting for the “official” bit before the party could start.

Instead, their guests arrived and they got straight down to the important stuff:

Drinks. 🥂
Brilliant food.
Speeches.
Hugs.
A LOT of laughter.
Dancing.

And most importantly, spending the day with the people they love.

And I bloody loved it.

Because after nearly 20 years as a wedding photographer, one thing I know for sure is that … there isn’t one right way to have a wedding!!

So if you’re planning yours, here’s your permission to question the bits you think you *have* to do.

Don’t want a traditional ceremony? Don’t have one.

Hate the idea of cutting a cake? Skip it.

Don’t want hours of wedding photographs? You absolutely don’t need them.

Want to do the legal ceremony on a different day and throw one massive celebration afterwards? Go for it.

Ask yourself:

Are we doing this because we want to — or because it’s what you’re supposed to do at a wedding?

Because the best weddings I photograph aren’t necessarily the most traditional, the most expensive or the most perfectly planned.

They’re the ones that feel completely like **the people getting married.**

And Jo & K absolutely nailed that. 🤍

As a documentary wedding photographer, that’s exactly what I want to photograph — not a day built around taking pictures, but a brilliant celebration where you’re busy enjoying yourselves and I get to tell the story of it.

**Your wedding. Your people. Your rules.**

✨ SAVE this if you’re planning a relaxed, non-traditional wedding and need reminding that you really can do it your way.

📤 SHARE it with someone who’s planning a wedding and needs permission to throw out the rule book.

From New York to the Sussex countryside… and WHAT a wedding. 🤍

Julie & Lawrence flew over from New York to celebrate with their favourite people at the beautiful South Lodge — and honestly, this was the BEST day.

An outdoor ceremony, gorgeous flowers, their children right at the heart of it all and so much laughter from beginning to end.

This is one of the things I love about a celebrant-led ceremony — you can make it completely personal to you.

The brilliant Stewart created a ceremony that really felt like **Julie & Lawrence**, involving their children and some of their closest friends and family, including a handfasting ceremony.

And I LOVE a handfasting. 💝

Ribbons are tied around the couple’s hands as part of the ceremony — one of the traditions associated with the expression **”tying the knot”** — and it’s always such a lovely thing to photograph, especially when the people closest to you are involved.

Then there was the rest of the day...

Beautiful South Lodge, incredible flowers from Tony Dunn, Toastmaster Dan keeping everything running brilliantly, plenty of emotion, LOTS of laughter...

And an absolutely epic finish with some properly crazy dance floor action. 😂

Basically, everything a wedding should be.

Julie & Lawrence, thank you SO much for flying across the Atlantic, gathering your wonderful people together and choosing me to photograph it all.

What a bloody brilliant day. 🤍

And a little shout-out to the dream team:

📩 And if you want your wedding photographs to tell the story of how your day actually **felt**, come and say hello.

Sometimes the best thing you can do on your wedding day is just… take a minute. 🤍

Part 2 of Sophie & Jack’s brilliant Upwaltham Barns wedding.

After dinner, when it was cooler and there was no pressure to be anywhere, we took a little wander up the hill behind the barns.

This is one of my favourite things to do at Upwaltham.

Having got married here myself, this place will always be incredibly special to me — and that walk up the hill is something I particularly love.

You can stop, look back down at the barns where all your favourite people are celebrating you, turn around and take in that incredible view across the valley...

And just, breathe for a minute.

Because your wedding day goes ridiculously fast.

Yes, this little wander gives us time for some bloody gorgeous photographs.

But actually, that’s not the most important bit.

It’s giving you time together.

To talk.
To laugh.
To take in what just happened.
To have that ‘we actually got married!’ moment.

And I give you space to do exactly that.

Because my job isn’t to turn this part of your day into a photoshoot.

My job is to tell the story of your wedding — the looks, the smiles, the tiny details and the big picture.

And I can do that best when I give you the space to actually .. enjoy it.

You enjoy the moment.

I’ll take care of remembering it.

✨ Save this if you’re planning an Upwaltham Barns wedding.
📩 And if you want wedding photographs without your wedding feeling like a photoshoot, come and say hello.

The best ceremony photographs aren’t always the obvious ones. 🤍

Part 1 of Sophie & Jack’s absolutely brilliant Upwaltham Barns wedding.

These two are the LOVELIEST people, surrounded by wonderful friends and family who were clearly just as excited about this day as they were.

And for me, that’s where the story is.

Of course I photograph the big parts of your ceremony — walking down the aisle, exchanging your rings, that first kiss.

But I’m also constantly watching for everything happening around them.

The hand reaching for an arm.

The nervous smile.

The squeeze of a hand that says *”I’m here.”*

Because the best photographs aren’t necessarily the perfectly composed ones.

They’re the ones with emotion in them.

The ones that take you straight back to how that moment actually felt.

That’s what I’m looking for throughout your wedding day — not just what’s happening, but all the little stories happening around it.

And Sophie & Jack’s ceremony was FULL of them.

Then we came out into the courtyard, the confetti started flying and these two casually delivered **one of the BEST dip kisses ever 👏

Upwaltham Barns will always be incredibly special to me because I got married here too, so getting to come back and photograph days like this never gets old.

And this one was an absolute joy.

✨ Save this if you’re planning an Upwaltham Barns wedding.
👉 Part 2 is about what happens when we step away from everyone for ten minutes and give you a chance to actually take it all in.

Golden hour has a way of slowing everything down.

This was one of those quiet in-between moments a few weeks ago — I love shots like this because they’re not performed for the camera. They’re just two people, existing together, and I happened to be there with a lens.

If you’re worried your wedding will feel like one long photoshoot... read this. 🤍

One of the things couples tell me most often before they book is:

“We’re awkward in front of the camera.”

Or...

“We don’t want our day to feel staged.”

So when I receive a review like this, it means the world.

Because my biggest goal has never been to create perfectly posed photographs.

It’s to help you enjoy your wedding.

To help you feel relaxed and calm or be your biggest cheerleader. Whatever you need to not worry or stress so you can enjoy and I can quietly capture the hugs, the tears, the laughter and all those little moments you didn’t even realise were happening.

And when you finally sit down with your gallery, I want you to feel like you’re reliving the whole day.

Not just looking at photographs.

Thank you,Sophie and Roni for trusting me to tell your story. Love you too!!!!

✨ If you’re planning a wedding and want it to feel like a celebration rather than a photoshoot, I’d love to hear about your plans.

This might be the most stressful thing I photograph… 😅.

There are very few times I’m genuinely nervous behind the camera.

Proposal shoots are definitely one of them.

I’m hiding in bushes.
Pretending to admire the view.
Doing everything I can not to accidentally make eye contact and give the game away. 😂

Then it happens.

One question.
One surprised “YES!”
And suddenly every emotion comes pouring out.

Those first few seconds are my favourite.

The shock.
The laughter.
The happy tears.
The “I can’t believe this is happening” faces.

Because just like a wedding day, it’s never about creating a perfect photograph.

It’s about capturing a moment you’ll never get to experience again.

Congratulations, Alex & Sarah. Thank you for trusting me with this moment in your lives🤍

✨ If you’re planning a proposal and want every second captured without spoiling the surprise, I’d love to help.

This. This is why I love weddings. 🤍

Not because everything’s perfect.

But because, for one day, all your favourite people are in one place, celebrating the two of you.

Danielle & Elliott’s wedding at Hendall Manor was full of exactly that.

Big laughs.
Tight hugs.
Questionable dance moves.
Happy tears.

And then there was this…

One spin.
One huge laugh.
Two people completely caught up in the excitement of finally being married.

You can feel the joy in these photographs.

And that’s exactly what I want for every couple I photograph.

Not a wedding that feels like a photoshoot.

A wedding where you’re so busy living the day that the photographs simply become a reflection of it.

Days like this are the reason I still love photographing weddings after nearly 20 years.

✨ Save this if your dream wedding is full of laughter, love and the people who matter most.

📩 If you’re planning a relaxed wedding and want photographs that feel just like this, I’d love to hear about your plans.

365 days later... 🤍

It’s hard to believe a whole year has passed already.

Wedding days move so quickly.

One minute you’re getting ready.
The next you’re on the dance floor wondering where the day went.

Then somehow...

A whole year passes too.

That’s why photographs matter.

Not because they’re perfect.

Because they let you revisit the moments that went by far too quickly.

Happy first anniversary, Hazel & Connor.

What a privilege it was to tell the story of your day.

✨ Wishing you both a lifetime of moments worth remembering.
