The next meeting is to be held on Wednesday 29th April and is a practical evening.
Please bring a camera and tripod. For those who cannot bring a tripod, don’t worry we can share.
The theme is photographing small models such as cars, figures, toys, small sculptures and railway models or any other ideas etc. It’s an opportunity to be creative and can be done using any normal type kit lenses, primes, small zooms and well suited to using macro lenses if you have one.
Important Note:
This is far more than just setting up and creating a photograph of a group of figures. This is an opportunity to learn how setting different apertures can influence depth of field and create a variety of different images of the same or similar scenes.
Depth of field being:
The sharpness from front to back in a photo, or, any part of the photo, front, mid-ground or background with the other areas at varying levels of sharpness.
Try to decide ‘What do I want to create’, in your mind’s eye and ‘What settings’ to start with beforehand. Then you might ‘tweak’ during the shooting session to get a better variation and improved result.
Challenge yourself to create the various depths of field types over a few photos.
It also brings in how exposure, [over exposure or under exposure] is impacted when the size [diameter] of the aperture is changed. When an aperture is selected to achieve a desired depth of field the exposure can & likely will change. The exposure can be modified and corrected by adjusting shutter speed and / or ISO sensitivity. Exposure can of course also be assisted by using external light sources such as LED lights, light panels, coloured effects, small torches or the introduction of flash.
All three camera setting options are known as the Exposure Triangle.
