Carl Martin, Folkestone 2026

Carl took part in my last Sunset Session of 2026, on a day which we thought would be ruined by haze. Persistence demonstrated its strength however and a shoot that looked like a washout was instead blessed by stunning, diffused light.

The Sunset Sessions are over for this year.

I first thought of this idea – a personal branding/on location portrait session in Folkestone’s golden hour – when lamenting how quiet Augusts are for photographers which led me to get creative. I work in a vibrant town, with a beautiful sunset across the beach, so why not put that to good use?

Whilst the Sunset Sessions will be back next year, I’ve been thinking some more (yes, dangerous stuff)... What about the ‘Golden Leaf Sessions’?

The Kentish countryside is full of wonderful spots, with stunning leaf-fall, which strikes me as ideal for the same kind of seasonal shoot. SO, I have two questions:

1. What ideas do you have for beautiful places for outdoor, autumnal photoshoots?
2. Would you be interested in such a photoshoot?

I met Diccon through the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce and soon became good friends. He’s been a fantastic help to my business, as well as a great guy to have a pint with, so I was delighted that he came to me for his new business headshots.

Diccon runs DPW Solutions, and I can strongly recommend working with him for programme or project management support, establishment of PMO systems or governance and assurance processes, or business and marketing communications plan development.

He’s currently helping a couple of projects through the Kent Foundation and is looking to turn his years of multi-million pound industry experiences into help for SMEs (like mine).

If your work happens outdoors, with movement, or with creativity, your photos probably shouldn’t be shot in a studio against a plain backdrop.

Instead, the Sunset Sessions are now open for you: golden hour photography around Folkestone’s Old High Street, Harbour Arm and beach, with only two sessions available per week throughout August.

For a couple of hours most evenings in August, the light along the harbour and beach turns everything in front of it into something visually stunning.

Book while August still has dates left.

The images from an evening test shoot I shared last week got more interest than anything else I've posted this year!

So, the Sunset Sessions are officially open. Limited edition golden hour photography in Folkestone, built for personal branding, with only two sessions available per week throughout August.

For one hour most evenings in August, the light along Folkestone's harbour and its beach turns everything in front of it into something visually arresting; that’s precisely what good personal branding is all about, and that’s what the Sunset Sessions are built around.

Sophie is a practitioner at the Pauline Quirke Academy and came to help her friend Maddie during her work experience with me. As she modelled for Maddie, whilst I taught her how I shoot and light models, I took some headshots. Then, in preparation for something new I’m preparing to offer, we took a walk around town.
