I visited Porthcurno Cove near Penzance on Friday. Porthcurno is famous for the Minack Theatre which is an open air theatre that sits on the beach's cliffs. With its soft sand and turquoise water the cove has won many awards for it's natural beauty. Not bad for a February day.

I haven't posted for a while as I've been very busy with approaching deadlines so thought I would post some images from my walk around the beaches in Falmouth last week. The image of the path shows leading lines while the two at Swanpool beach show movement which is achieved through a long exposure. The fourth image with the boat is at Castle beach. I'm very lucky living here with all these beautiful beaches right on my doorstep but with all of the rubbish constantly being washed up on them they're not always so picture perfect- that topic however is for another time and post!

Yesterday I went out on a photoshoot to Heligan gardens so I thought I’d share a few photos from yesterday’s shoot and some from when I first visited a few months ago after just starting uni. There will be more to come as a go through my images to edit them. Heligan gardens is a beautiful place, a must see if you’re anywhere near St Austell!

This week I took part in a 6 hour induction in microscopy where I learnt how to photograph subjects under a microscope. Here are two images that were taken very quickly during these sessions. The images are taken with two different types of microscopes, one using transmitted light and the other reflected light. They are both images of parts of wasps. The first is just a random part of the wasp that I took with the reflected light microscope and is actually about 25 images taken at different focus increments and then stacked together using photoshop to create a highly detailed image. The next image is a wasp's wing under a microscope using transmitted light. Here you can see the details of the wing up close. Microscopy is definitely something I am interested in taking time to experiment with in the future because as you can see it opens up a whole new world to photograph!

As part of my uni course I have to spend some time in a habitat observing and recording the wildlife around me in a journal and through my photographs. My habitat is a nature reserve near Swanpool beach in Falmouth. When I was there on Tuesday I came across this little robin who was very curious and definitely not camera shy!

At the end of October I went to Dartmoor where I visited some of the beautiful ancient woodland. Here I experimented with a slow shutter speed and panning with my camera. Mixed with the Autumn colours this creates a warm blurred effect that makes me think of an animal's view of flying or running through the woods. I thought I would share my some of my favourites!
