This is a great image to end our Refresh Sharing Series. It encompasses many aspects of creative composition including the rule of thirds, natural lines and framing, captured as 'The Ribble' makes it way through Dobson's Locks.

We hope you have enjoyed seeing some of the images we captured during the production of the Refresh Course

And if you are feeling inspired, why not check out our new photography experience: FLOAT beginning in August 2022.

Captured at Dobson Locks, the main subject of this image is placed in the left third of the frame and directs the viewers eyes across the centre line into the right side of the frame. The soft focus on the rest of the image allows the subject to stand out and creates balance and depth within the image.

The focal point of this image is highlighted due to its position being in the left third of the frame and also by being very sharp and in focus. The soft focus of the reeds on the opposite side of the frame creates balance and depth.

Have you tried using the Rule of Thirds in your images yet? Why not give it a go?

Captured by the side of the canal, this is a perfect example of an image using the Rule of Thirds. The focal point is clearly offset to the left of the frame with the other side left simple and uncluttered.

For the final week of sharing images from the production of the Refresh Video Tutorials we will be focusing on images that are captured using the Rule of Thirds.

Are you familiar with the Rule of Thirds?

The basic concept of the Rule of Thirds is to place your subject slightly off centre in either the left or right third of the image. This helps create a well balanced image.

A close up of wild flowers growing around the window frame of an old building. This low down, close up shot has produced a creative angle and an interesting composition, turning a subject which from a distance might look relatively simple into an intriguing and artistic image.

This image provides a beautiful view of caterpillars in the gardens at Esholt. As an 8yr old Zaki was able to get extremely low to capture these caterpillars from such a lovely angle, and being so close to his subject was able to enhance the image with depth of field.

Often the best images can be captured by getting yourself into unusual angles...and it can be lots of fun too!

An untraditional view from a bridge over the canal at Esholt. Often when capturing images from a bridge, people will naturally photograph the scene directly in front of them. In this image the photographer has chosen to capture what is directly underneath them, creating an alternative perspective and an interesting image.
