When I went through the process of my rebrand, I was forced to do a deep dive into my business, my values and what makes Rachel Fairfield Studio special. Because at the end of the day, if you don’t know what makes YOU different, you can’t help clients understand if you’re the right photographer for them.

I’ve realised that it comes down to a few main strengths, which together combined, make me fairly unique in my perspective and my approach to family photos.

1. I REALLY understand babies and their needs. “Don’t all newborn photographers and mums understand this?” I hear you ask? Actually no. Most mums wing it and get through somehow, but understanding babies’ sleep cycles, awake windows and body language is a different thing. We worked with a sleep consultant when my first born was just 6 weeks and I still use what I learnt at that time in every single baby session. This helps me get the best for you from your session.

2. I understand the value of photographs and preserving memories. Only when you’ve lost someone close to you do you experience how photos and memories are all you have left at the end. The importance of capturing those milestones and being present in them cannot be underestimated. Be in the picture. It doesn’t need to be perfect, but be in it! I want that for you because I know how it feels when you no longer have that option.

3. Having had three babies, I’m so familiar with how those early days can feel. They can be truly amazing but they can also feel tough. Sleep deprivation, body changes, altered or lost identities, a tough fertility journey or traumatic delivery can all combine to make parents feel like they’re not enough, not doing enough, not connecting enough. I believe that having beautiful pictures of you with your baby can help you see your self through others’ eyes and can act as a form of healing. You are enough and all that your baby needs right now.

This summer is more of a juggle than any other I’ve had before. I’ve even taken to allowing my little one to bring the guinea pig into the studio for playtime, to allow me to get some editing done!

Thanks to everyone for your patience while you wait for your galleries, they will be worth the wait, I promise you!

Hard to believe this little guy is ONE!

Not only is he celebrating one year earth side but mummy and daddy are celebrating one year of loving, parenting and discovery.

Discovery about their little boy and what makes him sad, what makes him smile…but also discovery of the new version of themselves. Happy Birthday little guy! 🎈

If big brother or sister doesn’t want to kiss baby’s head, that’s completely fine and a very natural response. This new being has arrived into their world, taken their mummy and daddy’s attention and it’s a big adjustment for them.

There are so many other ways they can show their love and/or curiosity for their new sibling.

Sometimes when you least expect it, they’ll come and engage with baby totally unprompted. That’s when I have to be quick with the button 😥 😆

The majority of my sessions are centred around bumps or babies, which I absolutely adore, but let’s not forget the toddler and preschool years.

A bit less puppy fat and dependence and a whole load more curiosity and personality!

The summer before your no longer baby graduates preschool/nursery and moves onto reception feels like a real bittersweet time but so worthy of celebration. The end of one chapter and the start of another. 🥰

Sitting here wondering how on earth this beautiful little guy hasn’t made it to my grid yet 🤷‍♀️

Found in my archives when looking through my newborn sessions for my new website and rebrand and thought it would be perfect for a dreary Wednesday morning!

Who knew photographing knees was a thing?!

It may not be a conventional focal point of baby photographs but I adore the excess skin and knee folds they arrive with!

You think you’ll always remember, but here’s thing….your mind soon fills with school run logistics, homework deadlines, play date promises and before you know it, the delicious newborn days have faded.

Proof that miracles DO happen 🥰 😊 ❤️

This little guy slept the whole way through his session. I’d told mum and that we’d finished and they started getting him ready to go home…then he opened his eyes 👀

I couldn’t resist filling my memory card up that little bit more!
