OK this is from the 2026 Old Edinburgh Calendar and this is the last call for those .... about 24 hours to get a preorder in and then I'm counting the numbers and getting only the calendars I need. No overstocking will take place and I'll round down so if you need calendars, get them NOW. There won't be any more later in the year and I'm sending the final numbers to the printer on Monday morning. All the previously ordered calendars (prior to October) are posted and most are with their new owners.

Right, this is the lantern and Edinburgh Castle for your Saturday viewing (and for anyone wh has the 2026 Old Edinburgh Calendar :-)

Have a great Saturday ahead!

Sticking with Greyfriars this Halloween (or All Hallows' Eve or Samhain) or just 31st October. Whatever ye like really. It's all one.
Anyway, looking for a daytime shot that fits the mood of a manky wet showery day, albeit not cold. This fits the bill and as I mentioned, 31st October etc.
Greyfriars gates and not a soul in sight...

Greyfriars Kirkyard has been here and open since 1560.
Greyfriars Kirk has been here and open since Christmas Day 1620.
I've been here a bit less time and in both at all times of the day and the night and closest I've come to seeing spirits is a discarded vodka bottle left by someone less fortunate than most and most likely down on their luck for sure.
BUT.........that won't stop the paranormal and supernatural seekers hunting them oot :-D..be careful oot there; it's cold, windy and likely to rain.
Enough ramble.
Greyfriars Kirkyard welcoming ye in by night................. :-O

Note to self - never post about subjects that most folk can deal with but some bams just use as an excuse to start a riot.
OK, post removed and bams removed too.
As an alternative, here's Waverley Bridge after a bit snow.
Actually, this one caused a riot too one day with the anit-snow brigade or the 'thats no snow' dafties.
Hmm maybes its not the photos after all 😁..it was 2 degrees celsius earlier this morning so you never know when more of this stuff is coming.
Happy Thursday.

Four years ago to the day the world was a different place.
I got up early, drove into town and took a shot. Nobody on the street and with the early morning twilight to myself.

Wee story.
I'm standing, after the downpour the other day about to take this photo. I'm thinking; pretty much just under my feet and under the cobbles about 40 feet ahead and to the left is Mary Kings Close. Now covered over and under the Mile (what remains of the old close anyways). So I am standing thinking about the photo, the reflections, cobbles and all that's gone on (and the wee bolt hole they ironically put to let the great and the good IN to the close if the city was ever bombed during WWII - yep....the almighty powers that be covered it up centuries earlier then used it as a bolt hole if needed). I digress or do I.
I stood and almost nailed this shot when BEEEEEEEEEEEP.
I confess I almost jumped oot my skin. Now...if I am on the road, I get it. But its a big empty car park at the City Chambers where the council do stuff....quite what, I don't know and we won't go there....and that's precisely why I was moved........an almighty expensive looking motor driven by a chauffeur. Now if I get to the stage where I run the city, they get my hands in the cement to the left there for services to Auld Reekie and I get paid stupid money for doing 'stuff' (sorry) I'll no get my driver to beep at the boy taking photos of an evening. Nah, Ill have the deceny to open the windae and tell him to move his erse oot the way myself. Maybe that's where I differ. Or maybe thats why Ive not got a chauffeur. Actually, on reflection I'd rather be on this side taking the photos than the other guy for some reason.
Anyways, the photo I took and forgot about three hours ago when I started writing this wee rant about big cars and horns 😁

That's all the calendars from the second batch (everything prior to October) now in the post and the post office are sick of the sight of me :-) NEXT, we'll get the cards from the printers and as soon as we get them back, THEY go in the post. The final calendar preorder runs til Monday and then that's it. I've had a few more folk asking about getting in December. Not a chance...the final date is 4th November or before ideally!

Updates oot the way, here is Cockburn Street from the other night. So late October . Yep, that's how we roll round here. Christmas lights up before Halloween so we can do the 12 WEEKS of Christmas in Auld Reekie....actualy, let's no go there 😁

It's wet. It's manky. It's cold. It's probably about to start winter even though autumn isn't finished and no doubt at some point there will maybe even be some good old fashioned sea fog (haar) around these parts. That can all happen because I'm NO going oot! Nosiree. I'm staying here by the fire, warm. But, I do head out in such weather. It does happen. All the above happens here in Edinburgh regularly...wee Bobby in such conditions about this time one year ago, almost to the day as it goes. A manky night then too.

Royal Mile sunrise kicks off the proceedings here on the page.
And with that, I'm off to work through a large pile of new shots, ready for sharing here. Wishing you all a braw week ahead and a reminder calendars only to be had til this time next week then that is it.

Finishing the week with a new shot looking from the New Town over towards the Old Town. Specifically, we're looking over the glass roof there in Waverley Station towards the bridges on the left, Market Street and if you look closely you'll see the back of the buildings on the Royal Mile with a cameo from St Giles Cathedral poking it's crown spire into the inky twilight sky. Lights coming on everywhere as the dusk heads towards the darkness of the night.

Big thanks for the support this week with the page, posts and the final batch of calendars now to be had. I can now send to Canada again (There will almost certainly be some delays as Canada Post work through the backlog) and generally speaking there is ONE week left to get calendars then there's gonna be no more this year. All those cals from previous batch are either in the post now or will be by Halloween THEN we get the cards back and will post them too.

OK, have a good one and here's Auld Reekie under an inky twilight sky.
