New year new start

Another one of the Steller's Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus pelagicus)

Their wingspan is from 1.95 to 2.5 m (6.4 to 8.2 ft) and is one of the largest raptors overall.

The Steller's Sea-eagle mainly feeds on fish. Their favored prey is salmon and trout.

This species is classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN. They are legally protected, being classified as a National Treasure in Japan and mostly occurring in protected areas in Russia.

However, many threats to their survival persist. These mainly include habitat alteration, industrial pollution and over-fishing, which in turn decreases their prey source. The current population is estimated at 5,000 and decreasing.

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas and a happy new year!

This is a Red River Hog (Potamochoerus porcus) in the snow from earlier this year!

They live in rainforests, wet dense savannas, and forested valleys, and near rivers, lakes and marshes. Red river hogs are mostly nocturnal.

They are omnivorous, eating mainly roots and tubers, and supplements its diet with fruit, grasses, herbs, eggs, dead animal and plant remains, insects, and lizards. It uses its large muzzle to root about in the soil in search of food, which can cause much damage to agricultural plantings.

Bintu.. what?!

This is a Binturong (Arctictis binturong), also known as the Asian bearcat, the Palawan bearcat, or simply the bearcat, is a species of the family Viverridae, which includes the civets and genets.

Binturongs can be found in the rainforests of Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

They actually smell like popcorn! They brush musk from scent glands under their tails onto trees and the ground to mark their territory, and howl to alert other binturong of their presence.

Binturongs eat a mixed diet of fruit, leaves, figs, birds, carrion, fish, eggs, rodents and plant shoots. They are skilled hunters and will leap and sn**ch food from the air; they are also good swimmers.

They are listed in IUCN list as Vulnerable.

Taken at Edinburgh zoo.

Please do not use this picture unless you have my permission.

Lazy Quad

The Bar-headed Goose (Anser indicus) is a goose which breeds in Central Asia in colonies of thousands near mountain lakes and winters in South Asia, as far south as peninsular India. It lays three to eight eggs at a time in a ground nest.

It was a pretty early time when i caught these and i guess they were still a little tired!
