Throwback Thursday — Portrait Photography, 2016 📷

A little throwback to some of my portrait photos from 2016.

Portrait photography is always interesting to me because every person is different. Some people feel confident straight away, some feel a little awkward in front of the camera, and some say they “don’t know what to do” — which is completely normal.

That’s why I like portrait sessions to feel relaxed, friendly and natural.

I especially enjoy going for a walk with someone and taking photos along the way. It doesn’t have to feel like a formal photo shoot. Sometimes the best portraits happen when someone is chatting, laughing, looking away, sitting with a coffee, walking through a nice location, or simply having a quiet moment.

For me, a good portrait is not just about how someone looks. It’s about their personality, their mood, their expression, and the little details that make the photo feel like them.

I can take portraits indoors or outdoors, depending on the style you prefer. Outdoor portraits are lovely if you want something relaxed and natural, while indoor portraits can work beautifully for a softer, more personal feel.

Whether you need portraits for yourself, your business, your social media, your website, or just because you would like some lovely photos of yourself, you’re welcome to message me with your idea.

These photos were taken in 2016, and I still love the natural feel of it 🤍

This photo from my session with Deimante’s Permanent Beauty is a perfect example of content that can be used across Facebook, Instagram, websites, leaflets and future marketing.

If you run a small business and need fresh photos, short videos or reels for your social media, I can help.

Throwback Tuesday — Hen Do Photography in Edinburgh 📷✨

A little throwback to this fun hen party shoot from 2016.

This was such a brilliant session to photograph — full of laughter, personality, friendship and a little bit of drama in the best way. I loved how the group leaned into the theme, had fun with the poses, and made the whole shoot feel playful and memorable.

Hen do photography is perfect if you want something more special than quick phone photos. Whether it’s a relaxed walk around Edinburgh, a themed shoot, group portraits, candid moments, or photos before a night out, it gives you something lovely to look back on after the celebrations are over.

I can capture a mix of:

📷 fun group photos
📷 natural candid moments
📷 individual portraits
📷 themed/styled photos
📷 city centre or location-based shots
📷 details, outfits and little moments from the day

These photos were taken in Edinburgh, and I still love the black-and-white style. It gives the images a timeless, slightly cinematic feel, while still keeping all the fun and personality of the day.

If you’re planning a hen do, birthday celebration, girls’ day out, or special get-together in Edinburgh or nearby areas, you’re welcome to message me with the date, location, number of people and the type of photos you’d like, and I can prepare a quote.

A photo session doesn’t have to feel awkward or formal. It can simply be part of the fun — a chance to laugh, dress up, celebrate and create memories together.

Throwback Thursday — Hibernian Victory Parade, Edinburgh, 2016 📷💚

I’m not really a football person, but I do love photographing real moments, atmosphere, people, emotion and little pieces of local history — and this was definitely one of those days.

In May 2016, Hibernian won the Scottish Cup after a 114-year wait, beating Rangers 3–2 at Hampden Park. The following day, Edinburgh was filled with green and white as thousands of supporters came out for the open-top bus parade through the city towards Leith Links.

I went along as a spectator with my camera, not because I knew much about football, but because I could feel that this was a big moment for so many people. The streets were full of excitement, colour, flags, phones in the air, children sitting high up to see better, families celebrating together, and people simply enjoying being part of something they would probably remember for years.

That’s what I love about photography. Sometimes you don’t need to be part of the story in the same way as everyone else to recognise that something meaningful is happening. You just need to notice the expressions, the energy, the details, the atmosphere — and try to capture a little piece of it before it disappears.

One of my favourite photos from that day was of a lovely family who kindly agreed to stop for a quick photo. Looking back now, I wonder how much everyone has changed since 2016. That is one of the beautiful things about photographs — people grow, life moves on, children change so quickly, but the photo keeps that one little moment exactly as it was.

These photos are not about football rivalry. They are about people, community, emotion, celebration and a memorable day in Edinburgh.

A little throwback from around 10 years ago 📷

This photo is special to me because it shows both the model and one of the photographs we created together, printed, framed and hanging in her home.

There is something beautiful about seeing a photo become more than just a file on a computer. When it is printed and displayed, it becomes part of someone’s space, their memories and their story.

This was from a very personal, creative portrait session with my friend, and I still love how much emotion and confidence came through in the images.

Photography is not only about taking a picture — it’s about creating something that can stay with you for years.

Good photos can completely change how your business looks online 📸

Whether you have a website, page, Instagram profile, brochure or online shop, your visuals are often the first thing people notice.

Before someone reads every word, they already get a feeling about your business.

Do your photos feel professional?
Do they show your personality?
Do they help people understand what you offer?
Do they make your business feel warm, trustworthy and real?

That’s why natural branding photography can be so useful for small businesses.

It can help you show:

✨ who you are
✨ what you do
✨ your products or services
✨ your workspace
✨ your process
✨ the little details that make your business yours

I especially enjoy creating relaxed, natural images that don’t feel stiff or overly posed. Sometimes the best photos happen during a walk, a chat, or while you’re simply doing what you normally do in your business.

Those images can then be used on your website, social media, leaflets, Google Business Profile, email banners and more.

If your business needs fresh photos for your website or social media, feel free to message me with a few details and I can give you a quote.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Review time
"We asked Monika to photograph our local school Christmas event, and she was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. She was friendly, approachable, professional and fantastic with the children, which made such a difference on the day. She helped create a lovely, welcoming atmosphere and even decorated the space beautifully for the photo area, which made the whole setup feel extra special. Monika took both family photos and event photos, and the results were outstanding. The images were natural, warm and captured the spirit of the event so well. I would happily recommend her to anyone looking for a talented photographer who is easy to work with and great with families and children."

A moment from a friend’s wedding a few years ago 📷

This is the kind of photo I love — not posed, not perfect, not planned.

Just a real moment full of music, laughter, movement and emotion.

Wedding days are made up of hundreds of tiny moments like this. The big portraits matter, of course, but sometimes it’s the in-between photos that bring back the feeling of the day the most.

The singing, the dancing, the funny expressions, the people you love around you — that’s what makes a memory feel alive.

A little memory from around 2016 📷

These are some of my photographs displayed in a furniture shop in Leith, Edinburgh.

I still remember how special it felt to see my work framed, printed and hanging on a wall — not just sitting on a computer, but becoming part of a real space where people could stop, look and connect with it.

Even years later, I still love these images. There is something very different about seeing photography printed and displayed. It gives the photo a different life.

This was a lovely part of my photography journey, and looking back at it reminds me why I still love capturing moments, details and stories through my camera.
