You coming to my gaff next weekend?

It's already. I'm totally ready, not stressing out at all, no last minute rush to finish and make work at all, don't even know what you are talking about.

I've made some abstract mixed media paintings on canvas and some on wood panels. All inspired by the feeling and memories of places I've visited over the last year or so.

These here fellas are inspired by the delicious coves in the south of Mallorca that I visited in July. Rocking up early doors before the beaches got busy to take a quiet swim in the clear warm water, sun dancing patterns onto the sand, tiny silver fish darting around my ankles. Celestial.

I'm selling all the new work I've made this year at a steal cos I'm obsessed with buying art supplies and I need a fix. Come help a pure jonesing sis out.

A wee peek at some of the things I've been making for

I've a handful of teeny canvas lilies. These are made with acrylics and oil pastels.

Ideal for a gallery wall, a flower lover, a gift for a stranger. Or like me, you can hang it up near your dead herbs or stopped clock. An affordable wee treat for your art lover.

This is my third year opening doors of my flat for

The first time, I painted my bedroom blood red floor to ceiling and showed some work around regaining my autonomy and a sense of safety from medical trauma and abusive relationships. A right hoot. A mix of self portraiture, poems, video and installation pieces. All theatre of the absurd Lynchian vibes. And that metronome clicking for a solid 8 hours a day…

Last year was a mix of our video installation commission at Nobles for the Arcade series and sharing my home with Ailsa Lochhead as we juggled making some work about b***s and the vaudeville in mixed media collage and cyanotype alongside busy self employed summers and school holidays…

This year I’ve challenged myself to try some new processes I’ve been keen to explore for a long time. A bunch of colour. Lots of layered processes. Some abstract mix media paintings remembering awesome moments in beautiful places and a bunch of flowers.

It’s really a covers record, robbing little elements of processes from the tunes of artists I admire as I play and find my own voice with different mediums. I’ve LOVED it.

It’s been joyful to just make and see what happens. And to work in layers that take time. My photography work is so often against the clock, trusting your creative decisions in the moment with no opportunity to let it evolve.

The focus of these images was firmly on lush wee moments I’ve had in adventures over the last year or so, letting memories of favourite places and being immersed in nature feed the outcomes. So the focus is the same as event photography - that preserves the fleeting - but I’ve been able to slow down and take my time in the making. What a treat.

Come see the beginnings of new things…

Aaaaw, look who played with Canva templates while watching Javier Bardem being a total psycho in Cape Fear. Oooft....A little introduction, in case you've just landed here.

I make photographs, paintings and other tasty wee nuggets of visual alchemy for people who love their creativity served a little less polished and a little more human.

I'm into beauty with fingerprints on it, sharing creative play, exploring weird ideas, analogue processes, finding local treasures and having enough time to actually enjoy being alive. A tall order but I try.

And if you want the random rants, studio experiments, new work and things I can't fit on Instagram, come join my mailing list. No algorithm required.

So like I said I’m trying to take a little easier and not stack my plates too high but…the next few weeks brings some delicious collaborative creative shoots with return clients covering some craft sessions with a bunch of the cutest wee babies and toddlers (we’ve been making a recipe with their parents too), an elopement, some editorial product and brand content work, a festival press call and some promotional portraiture, making a heap of work for art walk weekends alongside the last couple of weeks of the school holidays, plus managing the tricky transition back to class.

That’s all till maybe early September then I’m around for shoots. I’m keen to keep building on the brand work I’m doing - whether it’s content and marketing imagery, founder portraits or product launch photography, I’m really loving these creative sessions so bring me some more.

Digital and/or analogue. There’s a bunch of Intel and offerings on solencollet.com

Just home from a week or so at our family favourite escape, beautiful

Did very little except wander the witchy woods and blustery beach and eat my favourite summer fruits. It’s been such a treat to really take some time off this month and just lie down outside. It’s the first summer since I’ve worked for myself (maybe 13 years or so) that I’ve really taken weeks off over the summer and I’ve needed it so badly. I’m knackered.

May take me a little time to get back into the swing of things but as always I’ve many plots mulling and plans for creative adventures surfacing. August brings a handful of very fun collaborative shoots and some brand work which I’m really looking forward to.

I’m going to finish gutting the studio to turn it from a total s**t heap into a cosy space to work, inspired by all the textures and treasures I’ve been surrounded by the last wee while. But after the school holidays are done. So it’s slow progress till after then as I’m maybe finally learning my lesson about taking on too much all at once.

🍑🍓🍄💙
