I loved meeting Marissa. All the way from LA to Auld Reekie for a vacation. I never get tired of listening to visitors describe how wonderful Edinburgh is. I am definitely blessed being a resident here.
We chatted for about half an hour before creating this 5x7 portrait on metal.
The last step is a darkroom experience where we develop the image together and that’s always magical, even to me!

I met , and pumpkin spice recently for a tintype portrait.
Does life get any better than spending time with lovely people and cute dogs?
Fun fact: Marcelo’s tattoos disappeared in the portrait; a feature of this type of photograph is that it can erase certain tattoo colours. So, I can unintentionally make grandma friendly portraits!

I love working with these films, following my principle of slow portraits that are intentional and purposeful. Now that summer is approaching I’m looking for more colour work to celebrate the return of our local star.

Hannah came to the studio with her friend Izzy. It was a great session and I adore their friendship. I got the impression that Hannah is strong and inquisitive and I felt this portrait really showed off herself.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks with portraits. I’ve been delighted to get to meet so many interesting and adventurous people in my studio. I love getting to know everyone while they sit for the photograph and it’s wonderful to see how interested people are to experience developing the tintype in the darkroom with me.

Katie and James came by the studio a few days after getting married. I had a wonderful time meeting them. Katie has spent time restoring old tintypes so after learning that I felt the pressure to produce a perfect plate. I realise immediately that making a perfect plate is always my intention so I quickly relaxed back into making the portrait.

On a side note; I’m constantly surprised by how much detail these images create.
